Hiking 9:00:00 [3] 25.1 km (21:31 / km) +1400m 16:49 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Trailtalon 290 #5

Alpenhauptkamm, Stage 6. Km 154,9 (130,1 + 24,8). 08:00 - 19:30.
Ochsenboden - Freinsattel.

Good night's sleep, some rain and thunder during the night but i was very sheltered. Not cold at all. Took my time making breakfast and settling into the mountain rhythm. Left knee had started acting up, obviously from pushing too hard the day before with a heavy backpack. Took an ibuprofen and decided to try to hike slower but smoother. That seemed to do the trick until the end.

Very soon into the clouds and rain and drizzle. It came and went so wasn't that bad actually, though i did eventually get soaked. Lovely atmosphere on the Gippel ridge, all alone in the clouds in fairytale forest.

Rain let up near Göllerhaus, so i took a nice long lunch break, drying my rain clothing and dividing the climb into two. Just as i left 4 hikers came down and said they also closed the hut since there wasn't anybody stopping by.

Göller was impressive, the first real mountain on my route. Clouds had lifted a bit so more views as well. Downhill to Lahnsattel was steep but straightforward. Just before the pass the sun broke through and i had a lovely break drying my rain clothes once more and sunbathing.

Pushed a bit more up Wildalpe, where the main issue were curious cows who kept following me. Not scary, just annoying to be chased by bell sounds when i wanted silence ;) Nice wildflowers on the way: rattle, hawkweed, lots of thyme.

Took a bit of time finding a camp spot, i knew the area around Freinsattel would probably be good, but a lot of the creek area was either quite boggy, or clear cut... Found a beautiful spot among spruce and blueberries eventually.

Hiking 5:00:00 [3] 15.2 km (19:44 / km) +1400m 13:31 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Trailtalon 290 #5

Alpenhauptkamm, Stage 5. Km 130,1 (115,4 + 14,7), 14:00 - 20:30.
Ochsattel - Ochsenboden.

Finally back on the trail :) Had been planning this for a few weeks and finally found a nice window of opportunity. Had originally planned 5-6 days, but was more constrained with time in the end unfortunately. I knew i'd be pushing it with ~80km in 4 days, but was feeling very motivated.

Pretty straightforward hitching from the train station in Schrambach up to Ochsattel. Late start after a short night meant i was feeling tired but also had to push quite hard to make it to my intended camp spot before dark. Not many water points along the way, and i hoped there'd be something at the camp spot.

Hot, sunny and muggy going up the long climb to Bärenkopf, but more interesting terrain than the gravel roads and managed forests earlier. Thunderstorm rolled in to the south after Preinecksattel, so i pushed a bit more. Made it to the front porch of a cabin just as the first drops started. The cabin had a rain water reservoir, perfect for drinking and cooking.

Didn't see any other people the whole hike.

Climbing 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Boreal Joker

Bouldering at Hannovergasse. With L. and the group.

Bit tired from the weekend. Technically quite ok after a long break, but lacking finger strength. 6A's relatively easy but 6B's impossible, very interesting.
