Stoney Parkrun for the first time. - 1st place of 38!!!
Started steady as a Darlington tourist shot off at 6m/miles along the grass ahead, sat in behind along with another chap. Realised we weren't losing anymore ground after about 400m so tucked in for first climbs, which felt OK.
Lost some time on descents as nursing the back a bit, but strong along the flat again past the finish.
Closed the gap to 1st guy a bit and then 2nd place chap overtook him, I stayed back not knowing how much I'd need later. Climbed hill for second time now feeling it but staying steady, again losing a bit of ground down the hills but closing along the grass.
I made it into 2nd place as we passed the finish, 1 lap to go. Leader was only 10m ahead so tucked in behind and let him dictate pace up first wee hill. On last climb he struggled to push on so I passed him, maybe about 3yds ahead at the turn.
I knew my chance was if I floored it down the hill, I figured I could survive for another 400m or so. I steadily increased the pace until I got to the flat grass and put the hammer down, never looking back, flat out sprint for the final 30m push to the line.

Not a fast time in the grand scheme of things but a great boost in my mind and good to know I can work hard and take initiative.
