Orienteering Training – Glen Dye - 8.5 – 9 km (actual distance)
What a day… following the bombshell news from work today I was so glad I had plans to run tonight. Met Adrian at Glen Dye and ran the course I’d planned for the previous week. Started uphill from road into the fun section of depressions and scattered trees just West of the Bogendreip fields, then across the river and over to the vague green bit (map is so out of date here now). Picked off the controls here nicely, then out into the marshy stuff to the West of the map, it was lovely here in the heat, the marshes cooling me down.
Back into the woods and a quick control on the big moraine beside the huge marsh in the middle, then a couple of controls on negative features in the really technical section before heading up into the nice open forest and into the rocky hillside towards the South West of the map. My 2nd control in here was on a boulder below a wide re-entrant, with a boulder field nearby. There were no obvious boulders where I expected there to be, a couple lower down, map has never felt quite right here. Needs to be fixed if Gramp do a SOL here next year and absolute must before Deeside 2017.
Miles off line on route to my #17, then across river and road then into vague hill to East to find some tiny boulders and gully ends. Nav was sound throughout, and groundspeed was steady if not electric but I do have Cairn O’Mount in my legs, and am not fully fit from my chest infection yet so pleased with 10m/km with a lot of terrain running.
Hills were getting too much towards end.
Came back along road like I was running the end of a 10K, upright and on toes, feeling strong. Rare to feel so good after a run, loved it and helped clear head and put things in perspective.
