Slough Creek event
We had a great turnout due to the nice warm temps (15C). We ran out of intermediate maps. Sandy's courses were well received.

I had a decent run. I was able to keep moving most of the time although I did get tired. The course was easy so I didn't make any mistakes.

I'm enjoying reading while tracking, I feel like I'm more productive (plus it makes the time go faster).

Mike and I went to Rockcrusher and I re-ran his long course from 2016 in reverse order. Run is a misnomer, I actually walked it. This was more physical training than mental training today. I was out of it and missed one control badly, which I didn't know until I downloaded my track, That is never a good sign.

ahr:140 max:156

First attempt at my 5k training loop. I didn't even try to walk up the hills, so this was lot slower than my first run last year. But it's also more than a month earlier than last year, so I have time to get into running shape.

orienteer 20:45 intensity: (2:17 @2) + (18:28 @3) 1.98 km (10:28 / km) +13m 10:09 / km
ahr:126 max:136

Then I did a bit of O practice in west campus. I used the 100-control course, going to every third control starting at 98 and going backwards (to 86 then skipped to 36 and down to start triangle). I thought that would add a bit of mental challenge in deciding where to go next. It was also good to train when I was tired from my 5k run.

run/walk 10:04 intensity: (1:27 @2) + (8:10 @3) + (27 @4) 0.89 km (11:16 / km) +10m 10:41 / km

Back in Madison for my last (?) trip. Had a lovely dinner with D&B at Everly, where I ate too much. We ate pretty early due to Bethany's schedule, so I had time to exercise in the hotel gym after. Started with the bike while my stomach settled.

Mike and I went out to Rockcrusher. He was going to pick up the mini-markers he had put out earlier this month (for a"choose your own adventure" type event, download the map, go any time). I picked a course and was pleasantly surprised that the markers were all there (Mike decided to follow behind me).I deliberately took routes through the crappy woods to HTFU. I pushed the pace a bit in the beginning, but I soon gave up and trudged on through.
Beautiful warm sunny day, it was nice to be outside.

A bit of moving around at lunchtime, since we had a tax appointment after work. There was a glitch in their computer program that counted some investment income twice. They'll have to figure out what went wrong and we'll have to go back a second time. Bummer.

Another "Orienteering for Women" session. This is the time for putting out and picking up the markers. Kjrsten helped, which was nice. Everything went smoothly and folks had a good time.

But I was disappointed. The buzz for this event had been great. It was fully booked and I had a waiting list. People were calling this week and even this morning to ask if they could come.

This event was rescheduled from an icy January day, and I knew the Chiefs could potentially be in the Super Bowl. But the game doesn't start until 5, and we were out there from 10-12, so I didn't think it would be a factor.

And the weather was fantastic, starting at 4 and rising to 12. Sunny too!

Yet only 6 folks showed up, and two of them were repeats. So, I only taught 4 new people today. I guess I'm just a bit tired and burnt out and was expecting it would be worth my time to train 15 new people. And that didn't happen. Also, it was unusual to have 9 no shows, especially since I told them there was a waiting list and to please let me know if they couldn't make it.

I'll just hope that the 6 who came today will become our most regular attendees in the years to come :)

Mike went out for a long bike ride. I decided it would be fun to go for a short bike ride in the warm weather and meet him on his way home. And it was!

PTOC event at Blue and Gray. Mike, Sandy and I drove together, which was a great opportunity to visit with Sandy for 2 hours.

My mind wasn't in it at the beginning and I made the same parallel error on both 1 and 2 (going in too early). Doh!

The trails were a muddy mess, the woods were full of thorns, and the hills were there. I pushed the pace a bit to practice orienteering on the edge (for me) and consequently I didn't do a great job on route choices today. But no big errors (after 1 and 2), so that was OK.
