I planned to row more, but my foot started to hurt, so I stopped.

erg 20:00 [2]

Every so often, my heel hurts in the morning, so I have been following all the advice to avoid plantar fasciitis. Then yesterday, my heel really hurt. And it hurt every time I stood up after sitting for a while.

So I decided to treat the foot really well, and stop running for a little while.

run/walk (speed) 45:00 intensity: (12:00 @2) + (25:00 @3) + (8:00 @4)

at PNS this morning. Saw plenty of spiderwebs, but they were off the trail. (They were actually quite pretty in the morning sun). Made it home in time to watch the finale of the time trial.

stretch 15:00 [1]

I planned to row for a few minutes today, to reach my total hours for the week. But instead I spent hours cleaning, taping, sweeping, painting and carrying stuff around the house. Think I'll count that as the last 15 minutes of training for the week.

run/walk 35:00 [3]

Morning rains meant the SMP trails were closed, so I went to Wyandotte instead. Started on the trail, and 10 feet in I hit a huge spiderweb. Ugh! Picked up a stick and moved on. But they were everywhere! I was getting "cobbed" on my arms, my legs, my hair. After about 200 meters, I decided it was better to run on pavement tonight. So I turned around, and ran on the roads. Could only mange 35 minutes, though; I don't like hard surfaces.

I was working from home today, so I could deal with several repairmen. New front door installed, handyman fixed a few things outside, and one interior painting estimate (second estimator had to reschedule due to car problems). Feels good to get so much accomplished on the house; can't say I was equally productive at work today :)

Most definitely a day to stay indoors (although crazy Mike is about to go outdoors...)

Topic of discussion for today: is it more efficient to maintain a tidy garage all the time, or spend a few hours once every eight years to clean up a junky garage?

I think the answer is to get Valerie's mom to visit :)

at PNS. I saw three ground hogs today. Where did they come from, all of a sudden?

orienteer 50:00 [2] **

Mike set up a nice training at Bonner Park tonight. This is a wide open grassy park, with lots of shelters and other man made features. The map we used was contours only (plus a few ponds) with a 1 m contour interval. I walked most of the time, trying to follow the LineO precisely. Made a few mistakes. I found I could see gentle reentrants from a distance, but they seemed to "disappear" once I was in them. Great practice and a great turnout. Fun dinner with dick, Nancy and Reta afterwards.

run/walk 45:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (30:00 @3)

Some thunderstorms rolled through this morning, and the temperature dropped to 65 degrees. Yahoo!!! Time to get outside. So I went to PNS for a short run. The waterfall was spectacular.

run/walk 1:20:00 [3]

at SMP after work. The park was filled with road cyclists preparing for this weekend's triathlon. The mountain bike trails were pretty empty; probably the heat scared people away.

I think I might be getting into shape. Sixty minutes non-stop jogging on the trails felt...comfortable. And after I finished I felt...fine.

run/walk (speed) 45:00 intensity: (30:00 @3) + (15:00 @4)

at PNS after work. Cool temps and a soft rain: perfect conditions. A lot of trees branches down and washed out sections of trail after last week's heavy storm. Back home for a "tapas" dinner night and daily dose of Le Tour (finally available in HD!)

run/walk 1:30:00 [3]

Mike and I went to Smithville. The heat and humidity of summer have arrived, so we're in survival mode for the next few months. So, I took it fairly easy, doing whatever I felt like: jog here, run there, walk here, a few small hill repeats there.

Went to the track to do a Rockport Walking test, just to see how I compare to last year. Still pretty much the same.

Mike and I planned to run at PNS, but the streets were closed for the parade. Turned around and went to Wyandotte instead. Just an easy warm up and some intervals, to test out my new shoes

run/walk 1:00:00 [3]

at SMP after work. It was hot and quite humid, so I was really pleased when the thunderstorms rolled in around 40 minutes into my run.

The drive home was a bit dicey at times (rain so heavy and winds so strong) but now that I'm home and dry, it's a lot of fun to watch. Eat your heart out Patrick :)
