aqua jog 1:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (30:00 @3)

I was really not in the mood for class tonight; I almost didn't go. I watched the clock the whole time. Lots of arm work tonight. Very happy to finish and go home.

orienteer (map hike) 20:00 [1] **
2c

I was on a O map and found two controls, so I'm logging this as O. Couldn't resist checking out the first O map in Nebraska (that I know of) even though I knew it would be poor quality (first map by an inexperienced orienteer using USGS contours). The woods were mostly open, but some reentrants were filled with limbs from an ice storm.

I just walked slowly on a few trails (through the fresh snow). Foot felt OK at the beginning, but then I got tired and stopped after 20 minutes.

Spending the night at the Lied Center (Arbor Day farm). We used to come up here for a quick, cheap get-away weekend, many years ago. Quality has gone downhill. Too bad.

House update:
weeks on the market: 1
showings: 9

PT (office visit) 1 [0]

First PT session. My kind of therapy---she did all the work. Heat, electic stimulation, ultrasound, massage and stretching. Took nearly two hours. My calves are very tight, partly from wearing the boot

Foot doctor suggests two more weeks in the boot. She also showed me three stress points in each foot (in the bone scan). Says I put pressure on my feet because of "the way I am built" so I'm getting custom orthodics. Also will start PT this week. Think that should be enough ? :)

Couldn't go to class tonight because I had a hair cut already scheduled.

Note

Met with the realtor in Lawrence tonight. I am REALLY looking forward to buying a house in this market :)

aqua jog 50:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (40:00 @3)

I was the only person in the pool for the last 15 minutes (it was just before closing time). If there is anything more boring than jogging laps around the deep end of a pool, it is watching someone else jog around the pool. So I took pity on the poor life guard and stopped a few minutes early.

10 min walk
20 min jog
10 min weight
20 min jog
All this jogging with water resistance has really toned up my arms. Too bad one can't orienteer on your arms.

A big day for us.

First, we're back on the market .

Second, our iPhones arrived !!

aqua jog 1:00:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (40:00 @3)

No classes this week, since it is spring break. So I did some warm up and cool down, and 40 minutes straight jogging. I must have looked bored, because the life guard asked me "Ma'am (teenagers!) did you know that we have aqua aerobics classes you can join?" He was quite surprised when I told him I was in the classes, but they weren't enough, and I had to do more training on my own.

My car hit 198K today.

Mix of activities in the water today. Twenty minutes of warm up walking and kicking/swimming stuff. Followed by 25 minutes of jogging and 15 minutes of "bicycling". Managed to push harder (used my arms more, as Anna suggested) and got my HR up higher.

weights 20:00 [1]

various activities around the house and yard. Figured I did enough to count the last 20 minutes I needed for the week. All I can say is the people who currently own the house we end up buying in Lawrence had better do the same amount of work for us.

aqua jog 1:00:00 [3]

Another horrific day at work--Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Cake worthy. But working hard in the pool, followed by said cake, helped put most of it behind me. Thanks, Mike, for thinking of the cake.

Note

Got a credit issued for my plane ticket to the relays due to medical reasons. Yeah! I don't have to go to Ohio!

Note

Stopped by the podiatrist's office to pick up a boot. The doctor said it was my choice to wear it or not. Figured it can't hurt to try it for a few days. And it would be nice to heal quickly and cleanly. Well see how it goes.

aqua jog 1:00:00 [3]

The instructor asked us to bring 3 or 5 lb weights to class tonight. I was in the car when I remembered, so I ran back to the basement and grabbed the first pair I saw (5 lbs). Turns out we did LOTS of arm work tonight, and those weights got heavy. Especially when one is balancing on a floating noodle. My arms feel like noodles now.

aqua jog 40:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (30:00 @3)

First attempt at straight aquajogging. I "'walked" for a few minutes to warm up, then did laps around the deep end. Nice to have to section to myself (there were only a few rowdy boys and one lap swimmer in the lanes). Decided I would try a 30 minute non-stop "run" since that is what I would normally do during a light week.

HR never got above 118, even when I tried. However, when I stopped, my HR was 103 in the water and 122 when I climbed out.

Note

Cut out another pattern today, and then turned the sewing room back into a kids bedroom. But I didn't put all the sewing stuff away. Mike had the brilliant idea that I could set up a mini sewing room in the large attic "bonus room" off the guest bedroom. Makes buyers see a possible use for the room, and I get to sew occasionally. Yeah!

I had the bone scan today. Pretty cool. They inject you with radioactive tracer, then you come back two hours later for the scan. Neat to see your whole skeleton on the screen. They also took different angles of my feet. I brought the films home, but they don't scan well. Maybe Mike can help me get good pictures to post later.

Oh, and I definitely have a stress fracture in my right heel. I'm no doctor, but anyone could look at a generally gray image with one obvious black spot and figure it out. Follow up visit with the doctor on the 16th.

aqua jog (class) 1:00:00 [3]

first aquajog class. Mix of aerobic (mostly kicking, very fast) and weight work (aqua weights, using water resistance). Glad to get instruction, and have some company. But I think I will need to go to open swim times and do some jogging on my own, to get a longer aerobic workout.

Monday Mar 2, 2009 #

Note
(injured)

I saw the podiatrist today. Preliminary diagnosis: stress fracture. Apparently the injured plantar fascia pulled too much on the heel. I'm getting a bone scan on Thursday to determine if there is a stress fracture, and how bad. That will determine treatment. Probably a walking cast until the bone heals, then PT for the PF. Several months of recovery. I'm bummed. Spring O season just went: poof!

In the mean time, I'm only allowed to do upper-body workouts, or exercise in the water. So I looked at the class schedule for our high school aquatic center. Deep water exercise for fit but injured people starts tomorrow night, so I signed up.

walk 20:00 [2]

run/walk 45:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (18:00 @3) + (12:00 @4)

Moving around at Wyandotte. I walked the first 20 minutes, then tried alternating jog/walk (3 min/2 min). Foot felt OK, unless I tried to go uphill. So I kept to the flatter parts. Cold day: started with mittens over running gloves. Didn't take the mittens off until 40 minutes. Fun to run through the soft snow, and look at the animal tracks.
