orienteer 50:00 [2]

Control picking course at Wyandotte, after we flew home. Almost the same temp in K.C. as in N.O.; weird!

No energy mentally; maybe I should log this as "wandering"? Footing on the north slopes was treacherous: mud over frozen ground. Just as I was finishing and the sun was starting to set, I noticed eight(!) bald eagles soaring overhead. Very nice.

Note

A lovely day walking around New Orleans. This was my first trip here (and means I can count Louisiana as my 45th state). Did the requisite stuff: beignets for breakfast, walking around the French quarter. Took a guided walking tour of the Garden District and then stopped by an independent fabric store to buy a "souvenir". Proprietor's son is a student at KU !

Followed by a Cajun meal with Mike's colleagues.I like these non-O trips once in a while. So easy to pack, such a relaxed day. It was especially nice to have no set schedule.

run 20:00 [3]

Just enough time for a short jaunt around the high school fields, before we head off to the airport (again).

run/walk 40:00 [3]

At SMP after work.

Boy, I miss Dallas and Tucson. Had to pack a jacket, hat and gloves for tonight's run. Took 10 minutes for my hands to warm up. When is spring????

orienteer race 54:19 [4] *** 4.8 km (11:19 / km)
ahr:158

Day two at Tucson. Yeah! Another good day. Two days in a row, exactly what I needed to do.

Again, I made small mistakes. Still lots of room to improve navigation (and speed). But I paced myself right, and made it around the (agruably very easy) course in under an hour. Even had enough energy for a finish chute sprint :)

Consistency: 11.5
Time lost: 5.5%

I'm most pleased with my physical effort this weekend. In a good race, my average HR is between 155 and 160. Lately, I've run 160 on day one, and been too tired on day two (average HR below 155). This weekend I averaged 158 on both days. Just right.

Beautiful weather, great company, nice map. Thanks TSN for a great meet, and Mook for the fine hospitality. And Valerie for the post-race Peeps :)
