Day 1 at Camp Rutledge North. 50 degrees and raining. I predicted I would take 90 minutes. The extra time was mistakes and being very cold and tired at the end. Looking up was good, looking at the map was good for 80% of course (and totally missing for two legs). Consistency was not good. Route download will have to wait until Monday, since it does not yet interface with the iPhone :)
Followed by a very nice dinner in historic downtown Madison and watching football in the room.
Heading off to Georgia tomorrow. Looking forward to orienteering in the nice open woods. I won't be fast, of course. But here's my plan:
1. look up
2. look at map often
3. be consistent
Still baffled why so few people go to Georgia every year. Obviously, there's lots of interest in warm weather O in Jan/Feb. Used to hear that it was "out of season" for East coasters, but there's seems to be lots of recent O activity all over. Bland terrain? Maybe, but it's fast and there's rarely any snow. I do admit that I've had bad food experiences in rural Georgia, but I've learned to work around it. So why don't more people go to Georgia?

plan was to walk/jog the Clinton test loop. But as soon as I started, I knew the plan would have to change. Last week, the trail was well packed and in good shape. Today, the new snow had not yet been packed down, and there were several big snow drifts. Walking was tough. After a few minutes, I realized my mind and body were just not into this, so I turned around and headed back to the car.
