Note

Going to a local meet this morning. Plan is to look up, move quickly and cleanly. Still trying to make it back to 10 min/k on orange. May be tough today, given the course setter and hills and several inches of fresh snow.
10 AM

run/walk warm up/down 13:00 intensity: (1:06 @1) + (1:55 @2) + (5:37 @3) + (4:15 @4) + (7 @5) 1.29 km (10:04 / km)
ahr:150 max:181

orienteer race 58:30 intensity: (1 @1) + (3:59 @2) + (43:14 @3) + (10:09 @4) + (1:07 @5) *** 4.0 km (14:38 / km)
ahr:155 max:184 11c

I'm embarrassed. I'm humiliated. I'm depressed. For the first time in 20 years of orienteering, I mispunched. Unfortunately, I have skipped controls with e-punching. But, until today, I had never punched at an incorrect control that I thought was mine, and moved on through the rest of the course.

Mike and I punched together at my 9. I always get flustered when I see Mike on a course (I need to learn to deal with this). Then I took off running too fast, ran too far, realized my mistake and turned back towards 10. As I climbed back up, I saw a control marker. I went to it, punched and moved on. Usually, I check the control code, but I admit I've gotten lazy at local meets. Totally mindless, totally unforgivable. I stopped looking at my map, I stopped thinking.

Controls 3 and 11 were misplaced; 8 was misdrawn. Parallel error from 4 to 5 cost me time, I'm sure, plus it was no fun.

A bad day. Map and route.

run/walk 45:00 intensity: (42 @0) + (12:45 @1) + (2:46 @2) + (22:16 @3) + (6:31 @4) 4.69 km (9:36 / km)
ahr:140 max:166

Went to west campus and jogged around the fields. Walked 10, jogged 30, walked 5. Felt good to finally get over the 30 minute barrier; I had been close, but never quite did it in recent weeks. This is the longest run I've done since January 2009!

It's been a bonus week at work. Tonight I wore my new shoes, purchased with our annual $100 fitness allowance, and yesterday was my 5-year anniversary, which comes with a nice letter and a $500 gift card. WooHoo!

Now I'm sitting here, watching the city commission meeting on TV, waiting to see Mike present the trash audit.
