Note

Recap and Results of 2011 goals:

Goal 1. Time Lost : lose <13% of time in >80% of my O races.
Goal 2. Consistency: have a consistency level <20 in >80% of my O races.
These goals were based upon numbers generated by WinSplits Pro. However, very few of my races were entered into WinSplits this year, so I had to use the AP calculation instead. Which is similar for time lost, but does not have a consistency number. For percent time lost, I only hit that goal in 60% of my races, so it's a safe assumption that I missed my consistency goal also.

Goal 3. USOF Ranking: 65.10 ranking points. Result: (edit) 54.0. Dismal.

Goal 4: orienteer every week, and log 100 hours total for the year. Well, I orienteered for only 81 hours this year, mostly because I didn't do enough in the first half of the year. But this is still a big increase over last year, and I'm sure it was helpful. And I orienteered every week but one this year (when I could've should've would've, but some how, just didn't). This seems to have been the only goal I stuck with this year.

Race of the Year: classic champs, CNYO in the fall. Another fail. Huge mistakes on both days.

So, I had horrible results compared to my goals. Lots more work to do for next year.

However, on a positive note, I am now at my college-graduation weight and I am in the best muscular shape of my life. I logged more training hours this year than ever. My running continues to improve, and I hope the navigation improvement will soon follow. My motivation is high to continue to train for the results I want in 2012. And I have many fond memories of orinteering in Greenland and Iceland, and hanging with O friends in WI, NY and MO. A fun year.

I saw the weather forecast earlier in the week, and thought it would be great to ride my bike on a 60 degree day. And it was. That part of the plan worked well. Rode up to campus.

Did a short course on the Daisy Hill map. Mike set a nice course for me, on his map-in-progress. It was fun for me, since I don't know this part of campus at all. But what I didn't plan on was all the traffic heading to the basketball game. Duh! Bad planning. Made for some tricky road crossings.

Plan was to ride from campus, past our house, to the grocery store. Unplanned was the 20 MPH winds, with 40 MPH gusts. I've never ridden in such conditions, and there were moments when I had to struggle to stay upright on the bike. Decided to ditch the bike at home, and drive to the store.

Since I didn't ride to the store, I had to finish out my day's training with a few minutes on the NT

Moving around on west campus. I don't usually like to just run around the fields for this long (too boring) but it was the best option to get my training done before my sister-in-law Summer arrived for dinner. Nice evening, sharing family stories.

I have a tradition of orienteering on Christmas. All morning, I was looking forward to it, especially since it was sunny and 50 degrees. But just after noon I lost all motivation, and decide to take a nap instead. After the nap, I made myself go out. It was a beautiful day to be out in the park, lots of family groups out, usually with a dog. However, I still had no motivation, and I just walked through part of last year's 10K course. Odd feeling.
