Note

Plan was to come home and do some exercise in the basement. But during the drive home from work, I suddenly felt very weary of it all, and instead I stopped at a liquor store and bought some Smithwicks. Got home and proceeded to lie on the couch drinking beer and watching the Olympics all night.

orienteer 12:43 [3] 1.44 km (8:49 / km) +14m 8:24 / km

A beautiful morning, 22 and raining. It has been a while since I orienteered in the rain, so I was glad for the practice. We went to Carondolet, which is a park that I had only been to once or twice, which was a nice change. Mike and I ran at the same time, but on slightly different course. It was fun to see him out there. Did OK on the navigation, tried to keep moving the whole time. Couldn't get exactly to some controls, due to higher than mapped vegetation

orienteer 15:44 [3] 2.0 km (7:53 / km) +25m 7:25 / km

And then a second course at Carondolet. Mike started first, and I started soon after him. I tried to keep him in sight. I slowed down a lot around 3-4-5,and he got out of sight then. So I tried to run a bit faster, and came closer to him by the end.

orienteer 3:23 [3] 0.4 km (8:33 / km) +1m 8:25 / km

A super-sprint at Tower Grove. I was thrown off my the scale, made big errors at 3 and 5. I stopped at 5, because 6 didn't look fun (I started near 1, because that is where we parked the car).

orienteer 1:36 [3] 0.2 km (8:00 / km) +2m 7:42 / km

But I immediately decided to run a bit more (towards 6, then back to 1)

run 4:00 [3]

I followed Mike as he ran the course. I was filming him with the GoPro. I had to run really really fast to keep up with him on the longer, easier legs. That was hard. He also got confused around 3, I was happy to see (although he found the correct control and I didn't)

orienteer 32:53 [3] 4.0 km (8:13 / km) +28m 7:57 / km

We were in St Louis for a mini-vacation. Had to go back to my old favorite, Forest Park. First course was longer than I wanted (it was really humid). Couldn't get close to some controls because vegetation had grown up. (Map got wet the next day, so the ink ran. Didn't look like this when I ran)

orienteer 5:10 [3] 0.56 km (9:12 / km) +18m 7:56 / km

Planned to run a second course, but I was tired, and running out of time to meet Mike. So I just did a few controls. I definitely was tired (and brain dead on 9)
