orienteer 1:00:00 [1]

Putting out and picking up markers for today's event. I hung one in the wrong place! So embarrassing. But everyone seemed to enjoy the courses. I included a super challenge course, which they could run as a second course, just for fun. This was 1:1500 scale, around the buildings, with most of the map whited-out.

We had a few newbies, include a mom and 8-year-old boy. He came back saying this was the best sport ever, and the mom immediately put the next event on her calendar. That made my day!

sprint drills (track) 30:00 [1]

sprint drills (stretch) 10:00 [0]

A local running store is putting on a track meet in July. And leading up to it, they are offering a training series. I was very excited about both of these. And then they announced this week that the training would focus on 400m to 3200m. Bummer!

But I decided to sign up anyway, be sociable, get some tips. Tonight was the first session. About a dozen folks, of all ages, were there. Saw Mean Gene taking pictures at the start. As Spike mentioned on his log, we got bouts of rain. And hail. Which made it interesting. And stretched it out, since we stood under the bleachers for a few minutes when the hail was at it's worst.

Our trainer talked about overstriding and encouraged us to increase our cadence. I did the 400m drills, but low cadence is not an issue for me. It seems to be the only thing I do right (I'm between 200-220 when I race 100m). Didn't get any data tonight. My Garmin said low battery, then stopped. When I got home and put it on the charger, it said 80% charged. Guess it didn't like the rain.

cycle 40:00 [1]

Mike and I rode to the movie theater to watch "Guardians of the Galaxy 2". Pretty slow moving, no plot, but great to watch in 3D in reclining seats. Seems like everybody wants to play a cameo role in sci-fi movies these days

orienteer 14:36 [3] 1.68 km (8:41 / km) +35m 7:53 / km

Really fun mini-course around the engineering complex. They have built so many new buildings here in the past few years, that we never mapped it (changed too often). Mike is making a map of the area now and set this course for me. I don't think the map is georeferenced, so my track looks a bit wonky. I definitely did not run through any olive green :) I had fun. Didn't run fast but ran steady.

Then I checked out the Biotech building and parking lot on west campus, to update the map for our event on Saturday.
