Rockhaven local event, which had been rescheduled from the frigid Jan 1 original date.
Worked registration, gave some beginner's briefings then quickly changed before the mass start. I had decided beforehand that I would stop at one hour, so when I saw where I was at 30 minutes, I decide to skip a few controls.
Mostly OK, but I was trying to concentrate well and not make mistakes. Twice I was distracted and missed a minor trail junction and ended up on the wrong trail. The good news is that I noticed it fairly quickly, and corrected. But still, shouldn't have made these mistakes at all.

Then I drove to the Overlook and met up with 5 other women for a special "orienteering for women" training. My goal is to increase the number of women attending local events. I solicited advice, and several folks recommended women-only training, so I decided to try it. We have three sessions scheduled, today was the first.

It was a lot of fun, and well received. We had 2 complete newbies, and three semi-experienced orienteers who want to get better. We talked about the map, contours and compasses for a bit, then went on a map hike to a few locations. A good day.

Picking up tapes from the Clinton Christmas course. We cancelled our regular event because of the wind chill in the morning. But it had warmed up to -11c by 2pm, so out I went (the tapes were supposed to be down yesterday). Nice day out. I drove from place to place, jumped out and took down a tape or two, then back to the car. Didn't see another person out, but saw some owls and deer.

Too cold outside, so I exercised in the basement.

2017 Review

Training:
Overall goal: 250 hours. Result: 257 hours of training, my most ever!
Orienteering goal: 85 hours. Result: 86 hours
Yoga or stretch goal: every week: only hit this about 70% of the time

Results:
Goal: be the best true F50 at the Classic Champs.
Well, first of all, I didn’t realize that Kristin Hall was only 4 years younger than me, and if she chooses to run her age class, we’re together. So, no, I didn’t beat Kristin at the US Champs (and I never will). I didn’t beat many folks, because I had two sucky days. For what it's worth, I was the second true F50. This was a fail.

Focus goal: This year’s word is “ahead”.
Mixed results, but I’m still practicing.

In some other numbers:
garments sewn: 5
books read: 17
years married: 20
OK starts: 275 (a new high!)
national events: 18

Highlight of the year: winning the middle champs in Idaho!
