It was a perfect day to ride the Lawrence Loop: cool and overcast.
I was worried that I might not feel good so I started at the Arboretum, and went uphill first. That way, I could easily turn around and go downhill if necessary.
I enjoyed this ride. I saw lots of people out and about, but funny, no one passed me from behind. I went clockwise this time, which I thought was the way most people usually go. However, I started relatively late in the day.
My legs did get tired, especially heading uphill into the wind on the road past Martin Park. I had to stop a few times. And I got off the bike to walk in Constant park and near the Baker wetlands, to give my legs a break.
After I crossed Iowa, I looked at my watch and thought, I might be able to make it under 2:30. So I started to push it. My quads were really complaining now, and every little rise felt like a big effort. I got stuck at the light crossing K10 and ended up sprinting the last section, but I made it with 15 seconds to spare!
As soon as I stopped, my legs started screaming at me . They were very sore. Got home, took ibuprofen and rolled my muscles. Starting to recover now. I'll probably be really sore tomorrow and Tuesday.
Edit: legs did not get very sore the next few days. So pain on Sunday may have been lactic acid or lack of food.
