orienteer 16:37 [3] 1.69 km (9:50 / km) +2m 9:47 / km

I got a little bit of training in between thunderstorms. I did a "memory snippet" exercise again. I cut out small portions of the map and pasted them on a sheet of paper . I looked at it and tried to decide where it was on the map and then run there (without looking at the full map). I did have the full map with me and I did use it once.

sprint drills 35:00 [3] 2.53 km (13:49 / km)

Time to head to the track and run with my spikes. I decided NOT to go back to the one I was at the other day, my usual track. I confirmed that there are 4 tracks within a 3 mile radius of our house. I chose Billy Mills Middle School due to the inspirational name!

I wish I had a HR monitor on for this session. I didn't move far but my HR was extra high. I went to the middle school track. I brought my spikes for the first time this season and was looking forward to practicing some starts.

As I walked up towards the track, I noticed two dogs running loose. I looked around for an owner, but didn't see any. The dogs crossed the track and went to the far curve and seemed to be leaving the area. I dropped off my gym bag and started walking around the track to warm up. Then the dogs noticed me and came over.

I wasn't worried, I like dogs and have never had any issues. But today was a first. The mean white dog bared it's teeth and started growling and barking at me. The friendlier black one ignored me at first, but came over when the white one got excited. I tried to be in control but it wasn't working.

They suddenly got tired of me and started walking away. I walked behind them to get my bag. They seemed to be leaving, then decided to come back and growl and circle around me some more.

This pattern kept up the whole time I was out there and trying to get back to my car. They would leave, then come back, The white dog did not like it when I picked up my bag and started using it as a shield. As I was walking across the grass, it nipped my calf. Left lots of slobber and some marks on the skin, but did not break through.

Made it back to the car, and drove away. That was scary.

I still wanted to practice, so I drove back to west campus. I did some warm ups, then tried to do a few starts (in my regular shoes). But my head wasn't in it, LOL. I stopped.

Then home for some sprint strength drills.
