walk warm up/down 15:00 [1]

to/from west campus
11 AM

run 30:00 intensity: (18 @1) + (8 @2) + (14:54 @3) + (13:08 @4) + (1:32 @5) 3.87 km (7:46 / km) +21m 7:33 / km
ahr:147 max:164

Plan called for 45 min running with 10x pickups (1-3 min each). So I programmed my watch to do 3 min/90 sec intervals. I was tired right from the start. I walked for a bit after each pickup. Maybe I went out too fast? I really wanted to quit after 20 minutes. At 25 minutes, I decided I could run shorter pickups. At 30 min I thought I would just jog the rest of the time. Instead, my brain saw that I had circled back to the road that led home and I decided that 30 minutes was enough for today.

I'm grateful to live 2 blocks from campus. There's plenty of room to roam, explore, run and orienteer without bumping into other folks. Yet I'm already bored with it and I dread thinking how much longer this will go on.....

Fantasy US Champs, Day 3, sprint at Northern KY Univ
Another clean run, but not super fast. Until the finish! It was perfect for me to sprint and I was so glad I had rented the SI-Air. I ended up winning F55 by 1 sec over Kissy!

orienteer 30:00 [3]

Training plan called for 75 min run. I was not looking forward to
1) running a long time
2) on mostly hard surfaces
3) being bored
4) getting tired

So I came up with a plan and asked Mike to drop me off on the top of campus. I set my watch for intervals of 2 min run/30 sec walk to help me from getting too tired. Then I re-ran parts of the Water Tower course, wandered around on the top of campus, headed over to West Campus and orienteering part of the 100-control course, and then down the hill towards home. I stayed on grass as much as possible. The full track is under the run/walk portion. I figure I did about 30 minutes of orienteering. The 100-control section was tough because I didn't have any magnification of the small map, so I couldn't read details on the run and i was tempted to stop or walk. I decided the goal of running for 75 min was more important than O, so I stopped orienteering and focused on finishing the run.

Note

Fantasy US Champs, Day 2, Long at Whitewater
Ugh this was a slog. I had no energy, walked every bit. I'm half way down the Brown course results, but I was clean, which is something. Splits show a mistake at 3 when I just walked by the marker and didn't see it, lost about a minute here. Now to rest up for tomorrow.

Fantasy US Champs day 1, Middle
Temps were perfect for running this morning at McFarlan Woods. I felt ready for today's race and had a good start. I was pacing myself well, trying not to run too fast, so I was able to read the map around 5 better than others and made the better route choice to the left. I was satisfied with my run when I finished. When I saw the other results, I was thrilled to see I was the second woman on Brown and even beat Peggyd today!

Ride with Mike after work. Not much conversation since there was a heavy headwind going out. Plus my legs were tired from weights. Plus we had to ride single file every time we passed someone on the bike path. Nice day to be out, though.
