My mom died today. It had been expected since she went into hospice last week. But it's still rough. It was non-COVID related but her last months were lonely and isolated due to COVID restrictions. Plus she had been moved from hospital to rehab to hospital to assisted living to hospice. Fortunately, my three sibs who live in the Bay Area were able to get in to see her in person this week.
To honor mom, I went for a hike at the Lawrence Nature Center. I also explored some new (to me) streets in Lawrence. And I spent some time reading today. It would have been ideal if I did these things in some far-off exotic land. But mom had only been to Lawrence 3 times, so maybe it would have been exotic enough for her!
She gave us all the love of outdoors, travel, reading and words. She was very witty and could do the NY Times Sunday crossword in pen. She was not a good cook and embarrassed us all as kids by singing any where and any time (most especially in supermarket aisles). She was funny and loved to make others laugh.
