Felt like a longish bike ride today. Fair number of people out, so I’m glad the bike path is 10 feet wide. Strong north wind was tough going up Kasold but the rest of the ride was fun.

Running on the river trails. Saw a few other runners but no bikes. I wasn't sure if I would last the whole 60 minutes, but taking walking breaks every 5 minutes helped.

Mike and I went to Olathe and ran the Northwoods UsynligO long course setup by PTOC. I wasn't sure if I would do the whole thing because I've been so tired lately. I had forgotten how physically draining grief can be. I ended up walking some parts and I never pushed the pace at all. It was a good diversion to get out on a beautiful day. Also nice to see all the backyards and landscaping.

After, we walked at Sunflower Nature Park for a little bit. Then home for lunch and a 1.5 hour nap.

Not much energy today, mental or physical. So I decided to do the Burcham Four Parks course by bike. I only have a road bike, so I had to walk it to a few locations. Also, I was a bit lazy and didn’t always go all the way to center of circle if I heard the UsynligO music first. Nice day, not many people out yet.

Patricia Gorman Jones 1927-2020

mom 1995

My mom died today. It had been expected since she went into hospice last week. But it's still rough. It was non-COVID related but her last months were lonely and isolated due to COVID restrictions. Plus she had been moved from hospital to rehab to hospital to assisted living to hospice. Fortunately, my three sibs who live in the Bay Area were able to get in to see her in person this week.

To honor mom, I went for a hike at the Lawrence Nature Center. I also explored some new (to me) streets in Lawrence. And I spent some time reading today. It would have been ideal if I did these things in some far-off exotic land. But mom had only been to Lawrence 3 times, so maybe it would have been exotic enough for her!

She gave us all the love of outdoors, travel, reading and words. She was very witty and could do the NY Times Sunday crossword in pen. She was not a good cook and embarrassed us all as kids by singing any where and any time (most especially in supermarket aisles). She was funny and loved to make others laugh.
