It was snowing pretty heavy this morning, but we didn't get as much ice as predicted. I still think it was a good idea to reschedule our event, since many people would have decided not to drive.

I waited until the snow stopped and then I went out for a quick O at Holcom. I love running in fresh snow, so this was fun. I also took advantage of the empty park and set a control in the middle of the tennis court.

Just a reminder of the goals I set on 01Jan20:
Total Training: 262 hours
Orienteering: 85 hours
Ranking: 80
Races: medal at NAOC
Fun: add at least one new O state and three O countries

Well, I hit the first three goals which were under my control.
And the pandemic prohibited the last two goals.

Overall, I'm pleased that I kept exercising this year (it's my highest total ever, still increasing by one hour per year :) and that I orienteered a lot. I'm also the exact same weight I was on Jan 1, which is a shock since I definitely drank a lot more this year than usual.

O Highlight of the year was the orienteer's happy hours. Thanks for joining me!

Well this wasn't the orieteering I was planning to do today. The idea was to put out the markers today and tomorrow for our annual New Year's event. But the forecast calls for freezing rain Thur night into Fri morning, followed by snow all morning. More and more people were writing and asking if we were going to postpone the event. We don't postpone due to snow but we thought the icy roads might be an issue for people getting to/from the event. So I called the Corps office to confirm that we could move the date, and then I announced it was postponed until Jan 9th. We had never postponed an OK event in the 20+ years I was around, until 2018 (super cold day). And now this year.

So then I had lots of free time. Mike drew me a course on his in-progress non-name but bike-in-tree map. (He was working today, I had the day off).

I had a blast on this course. The area is super flat and wide open. I tried running a few times, but it was too soon after a heavy lunch. And I screwed up badly on 4-5 and 12-13. But I still had a great time. I have to come back out here to practice running through the woods.

Mike and I hiked for 2 hours around Baker Wetlands. It was a leisurely pace, but temps were around freezing with intermittent rain. So I'm counting part of the time as HTFU training.
