Briones is always a great physical challenge but not much of a technical one. Today was no exception. I made one error of about 2 minutes on the first control. After that everything was pretty clean if you can call any run at Briones clean. There is so much steep hill walking and steep contouring, usually walking, that it always feels that so much time is wasted it's I could only run. There was a point approachng control 7 that I stood there at least a minute while I contemplated which dangerous Slope to descend. I asked myself if I wanted to die falling down this ravine or die sliding down the one to the left. I slowly crept down the one to the left and survived to risk my life again on subsequent controls.
Physically I felt quite bad the first part of the course. My chest seemed like it was about to burst going up several hills. But felt better as I progressed. I guess a clean run counts, as I won Green by 8 minutes over Steve Haas.
The most enjoyable activity of the day was buying my new pair of Inov-8
OROC340s from Joe. Can't wait to try them out next week in the Maryland woods.
