A-Meet Brown Middle Course at Paso Nogal in Pleasant Hill. First time I had been to this park, so the new terrain made it fun. Although walked quite a bit of the way, the steep hills got my heart racing. Had a loss of concentration for the second half of the course. Control 9: misinterpreted a trail junction and lost about a minute.
Control 10, Made a parallel error by picking the wrong trail bend as an attackpoint. In my defense there was an unmapped trail at that bend that made it look almost exactly like the nearby bend. Lost 3 minutes.
Final control. I think this control was set as a joke. It was only 25m from the finish, sort of hidden under a tree in the middle of a poison oak patch. Most everyone missed it in front of the laughing crowd. Lost 30 sec.
The map was quite good, especially the vegetation. This was important since most of the control points were veg features. The Brown course was well designed. There were multiple problems with a lot of the informational and organizational stuff. But when you get old like me it is better not to dwell on the negatives.
