Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Huge turnout for pickleball this morning at the Webster Rec Center -- I think we had around 18 people at one time. Of those 18, 6 were orienteers, a pretty good representation I would say! (Cheryl and me, Anne and Paul, and Rick and Linda.) Lots of good games.

Walking (Dog walk) 35:49 [1] 2.01 mi (17:51 / mi) +64ft 17:20 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Walk with Homer, around the "big block".

Pickleball 1:00:00 [2]

Th afternoon walk-on pickleball at the Rec center. Couldn't get on the courts early like I had hoped, due to an impressive number of people playing basketball, and had to leave early to get down to my Bristol job. So less court time than normal. Lots of fun, though -- a number of very enjoyable matches.

Running 29:50 [4] 2.53 mi (11:48 / mi) +250ft 10:48 / mi
shoes: Screw shoes Asics Kahana 2 Mar

Whiting Rd loop with trailsnail. Pretty tough footing -- about 3 inches of snow, covering sometimes very muddy and slick ground, and of course covering up little ruts and high points in the trail, plus almost covering up some roots. The pace was very slow but the effort was quite high. Due to a large part to me being very out of shape, of course.

Pickleball 1:15:00 [3]

Came late to Tues morning pickleball, due to seeing our daughter off as she left to head back to PA. Played a couple of competitive doubles games, then we were down to 3 people, so I played against Kay and Bob and got a real workout in. They beat me 11-7, but it was a fairly long and hard fought game.

Pickleball 1:25:00 [3]

Sat. morning pickleball at the Rec Center. Much larger group than normal for a Saturday -- 15 people most of the time (12 people playing and 3 people sitting out at any one time). Some real good players in attendance who don't normally play on Sat. morning, including Joe and Carole Roth, Richard and Joyce Henzel, Dick Seils (? not sure if I have his last name right), and a guy named Larry.

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Th afternoon walk-on pickleball at the Webster Rec Center. We had 9 people for most of the time. I had to leave early, around 2:45, to get to work at Bristol. In attendance were Paul, Mike, Kay, Bob (Kay's husband), Joyce, Tom, his friend who's name I can't recall, Cheryl, Joan.

Running hills 30:00 [3] 3.02 mi (9:55 / mi) +372ft 8:53 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Hilly road run with tralsnail. Pretty much avoided the rain -- about the only time during he day, so far, that has been rain-free.

Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Tuesday morning pickleball group, much smaller than usual, partly because there seemed to be some confusion about what time we were supposed to meet. We only had four people, but it was a decent four, with Paul, Kay, Jayne, and me.

Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Pickleball at Webster Rec Center. Total of 13 people, although most of the time we had 12, perfect number for three courts. Will probably forget someone, but I think in attendance were: Cheryl, trailsnail, Paul (Mr. trailsnail), Joe, Jayne, Kay, May, Joyce, Britt, Mike, Debbie, Nancy, me.

Walking (Mall walking) 1:00:00 [1] 2.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Shopping with Cheryl at the Eastview Mall. Normally I really don't like malls, and I also (don't tell her I said this) don't really like shopping with Cheryl, because she gets off task very easily. Or adds multiple tasks to the shopping trip that she didn't originally tell me about.

However, we had a mission this time, which was to find a new set of casual, everyday, not very expensive dishes, to replace the many decades old set we have. And she (and I) were able to stay fairly focused.

After visiting just about every dept. store in the mall (one of which, amazingly, didn't have any housewares department -- it was a very huge store with nothing but clothes, and a scattering of shoes, perfume, and jewelry, but mainly clothes -- how can they call themselves a dept. store if they basically only have a "clothing" dept.?), one of them twice, we settled on a set from Macy's.

Pretty simple looking, but that's OK, pretty inexpensive, especially after we got a significant discount for opening a Macy's charge account, and as a major bonus, actually made in the USA!!

Distance is a very rough estimate. Time spent at the mall was much longer than an hour, but lots of that time was spent standing or moving very slowly -- not that that wasn't tiring, actually more tiring than walking. But it seems that standing still can't be loggable.

Pickleball 1:45:00 [3]

Th afternoon walk-on pickleball at the rec center. 8 people total. One fairly weak player (who hasn't been playing very long), a couple of OK players, and 5 pretty decent players, so we had some decent matchups.

Running (Trails) 32:39 [2] 3.29 mi (9:55 / mi) +33ft 9:49 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Hojack Trail run with trailsnail. The nice day we had this morning quickly deteriorated during the run, with rain falling by the end.

Took one walking break about halfway through the run, included in time and distance.

Pickleball 2:00:00 [3]

Tues morning pickleball. Some of it was a pretty good workout; we had 7 people, so for several games, I was playing against two of the better ladies, with me covering the whole court. Then the last game was doubles, with me and the 3 best (and fairly competent) ladies. So better than Tues mornings usually are.
1 PM

Running (With dog) 17:15 [3] 1.86 mi (9:17 / mi) +17ft 9:12 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Since the weather was nice, I did a short run with Homer over the Finn Park (with a stop for a dip in the stream, for him, not for me) and back. I'm in terrible shape; this short, fairly slow run felt totally draining.

One thing for certain, you won't see ME running 2 miles on the track at a sub-7:30 pace and then complaining about how discouraging it was, and that's for sure!!! (Hat's off to the person older than me who does this type of workout, though!)

Accidentally stopped the GPS for about 0.15 miles on the way out; added in that distance and estimated time manually.

Running (With dog) 27:29 [3] 2.52 mi (10:54 / mi) +250ft 9:58 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

First Whiting Rd run in a long time. Decided to see if hills bothered my knee issue or not. (Too soon to tell.) Brought Homer along -- he did fine.

I was dressed pretty inappropriately -- way overdressed for the temperature, sunshine, and lack of wind, and totally wrong shoes.

Trainsnail can and will sneer at me for this, but I decided to wear some kind of worn out road shoes instead of trail shoes. I've been wearing orthotics as much as possible recently, and I know they feel pretty good to my feet with both pair of Saucony road shoes. Whereas they don't feel quite so good with my normal trail shoes. Much of the trail was frozen ground, and that wasn't a big problem, but it had gotten warm enough that a significant portion has a thin layer of very slick mud, and I felt like I was on ice on those sections. I didn't fall at all, but I came close, and my pace was reduced to a walk in many places where I knew anything faster would be a disaster. Live and learn, I guess ...

Quite a few cars in the parking lot, but until the last 2 minutes or so of the run, no sitings of any kind (no people, dogs, squirrels, deer, cats, etc.). Then encountered three people, one dog, and one bike.
7 PM

Pickleball 55:00 [2]

Pickleball, Monday evening group at Webster Rec Center. Cheryl came tonight, as it was one of her rare Monday nights not spent working at the library. We had 8 people for a while, then one guy had to leave, which meant we had one court of 4 going, and 3 people sitting out, not ideal, but we take what we can get. We had Cheryl, me, Glen, Mark, Gary (who left early), Kay, Joyce, and Richard.

Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Sat. afternoon pickleball at Webster Rec Center. Lots of people there -- 3 full courts nearly the entire time. Good fun.

Once again, sadly, there were no wildlife sitings in the gym ...

Friday Dec 9, 2011 #

Pickleball 1:45:00 [3]

Pickleball at the Penfield community center. Toughest pickleball session I've had yet. Only 4 of us, so no sitting out. I was the weakest of the 4 players (but not by a WHOLE lot, I didn't think), so I was definitely working pretty hard. Also, the gym was pretty warm at first (apparently there had been a yoga group in before we were there, and they must like it warm!), but it cooled down fairly quickly. Playing were Joe, Carole, another guy named Dick, and myself.

No animal sitings in the gym to report.

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Th afternoon walk-on pickleball at Webster Rec Center. Good group; 10 players (5 ladies and 5 guys), only three of whom I would classify as fairly weak. So we had some good games, certainly better than typical Tues morning games.

Running 54:55 [2] 5.5 mi (9:59 / mi) +127ft 9:46 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

With trailsnail, on a fairly raw, unpleasant afternoon (mid 30's, some drizzle, some wind in our faces on the way back). Ran a mile, then walked for about 2 minutes, then ran another mile, etc. Time and distance of walking breaks included in totals.

Saw 2 dogs, 112 ducks, and 73 Canada geese.

10 AM

Running (Treadmill) 15:00 [1] 1.4 mi (10:43 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Very short and slow treadmill run prior to pickleball. Mostly to get used to the facilities (how the treadmill works, and how the sound systems work) at the Webster rec center.
11 AM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [1]

Tues morning pickleball group. Fairly weak field, as usual for Tues morning, but enjoyable anyway.

Pickleball 1:10:00 [3]

Pickleball at Ogden Community Center, first time I've played there. Drove out with Joe Roth. Three courts, very nicely laid out, plenty of space between courts, and behind courts. Lots of people there -- 22 were there today, which I understand is pretty typical. Only 12 can actually play at one time, but they have a real nice system for rotating people in and out, so no one sits out for very long at a time. Some very good players play there. One lady, who I played against in my first game and played with as a partner in some other games, took 2nd place in both women's doubles and mixed doubles in her age group at the indoor national tournament, for example, and her mixed doubles partner was also playing there today.

Saturday Dec 3, 2011 #

Pickleball 2:00:00 [1]

Sat. morning pickleball group. Six people in attendance. Jayne, Cathy, Anne, Sandy, Yashu, and me.

10 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 42:49 [1] 2.11 mi (20:16 / mi) +38ft 19:55 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Sunny, cool, but almost windless morning, so Homer and I did a walk that included some bushwacking, between the end of Woodland Lane and areas along Rt 104.
3 PM

Running 38:26 [2] 4.01 mi (9:35 / mi) +50ft 9:28 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Hojack Trail run, with trailsnail.

AP said the climb was 240 feet -- no way. I corrected it to an estimated 50 feet.

AOWN: Two squirrels, no cats.
