Walking (Dog walk) 45:53 [1] 2.23 mi (20:33 / mi) +3ft 20:31 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Not a bad day. Very sunny, upper teens, not much wind. I was breaking trail (through all of maybe 3 inches of snow) for a stretch on the Rt 104 path.

Sunny day, mid 20's, and not much wind.

Pickleball 1:00:00 [2]

Ladder league sub, again. I played decently for the first two games (lost 10-11 then won 11-2) then pretty badly for the 3rd game (lost 2-11). My goal was to not have the fewest total points of our foursome, and I think I tied for the lowest, so I didn't exactly achieve my goal.

Pickleball (Lefthanded) 1:15:00 [2]

Lots of people there, for a Sunday. Lineup of 8-9 paddles at one point, which is a lot for only 3 courts. Played with trailsnail once, and we had a come from behind win. In my opinion, we were each moderately better than our gender counterpart on the other team, though, so we probably shouldn't have fallen behind (by a lot) initially ...

Walking (Dog walk) 1:04:58 [0] 3.38 mi (19:13 / mi)

Upper 20's, slight breeze, not a bad day for a longish walk.

Walking (Dog walk) 52:57 [1] 2.71 mi (19:31 / mi) +6ft 19:29 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Nice day, mid 20's, sunny, modest wind from the west that made if very slightly nippy when coming back along Heathland.

Walking (Dog walk) 58:21 [1] 3.0 mi (19:28 / mi) +3ft 19:27 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Hojack Trail, starting from Klem, going east to North Ponds Park and back.

Still cold (low teens), but somewhat sunny, and very little wind, so it was tolerable.

Hanna once again tried to get into an altercation with a (very nice) dog we encountered. 100% Hanna's fault, 0% the other dog's fault.

Downhill skiing 40:00 [2] +10440ft

First skiing of the season. I had been a bit concerned about my not completely healed broken arm, thus I was in no hurry to hit the slopes. I bought a wrist brace, intended for snowboarders, which gave me a bit more confidence that I wasn't going to injure it if I fell.

GPS said 18.6 miles covered, which included lift rides up.

Orienteering 1:17:24 [3] 5.8 mi (13:21 / mi) +174ft 12:59 / mi
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 240

Ski-O at Mendon, done by me with shoes rather than skis. Score-O. Overall, I was rather shocked at how relatively well I did, vs my expectations. I haven't been running much in the last year or so, and not at all in the last 3 weeks due to a bad cold/cough which finally seems like it's going away.

At first I had no intent of getting all of the controls, but after about 30 minutes, given how many controls I had done and how many were left, it appeared quite possible to get them all, and I did, with about 13 minutes to spare. I had a slightly bad route choice off the bat by not getting #18 as my 3rd control; 18 was fairly close (about 500 m straight line) to the start, but pretty much out of the way from any other control. Since I initially had no intent of getting them all, it seems like 18 was a good one to skip. So I had to do that at the very end, covering more distance than if I had done it after #17 initially.

When I left, I was a rather surprising 6th overall.

It did help that the course setting seemed to favor runners vs skiers though.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:00:01 [1] 3.24 mi (18:31 / mi)
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

A semi long walk because it was a pleasant day -- mid teens, but sunny and little wind. The footing on the Rt 104 path wasn't the greatest (about 3 inches of snow, either non-tracked or unevenly-tracked) but wasn't terrible.
3 PM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Four games left-handed followed by two games right-handed. First two games left handed were enjoyable, next two weren't (got in with some pretty weak players, even by my weak left-handed standards). First game right handed I played pretty badly (I think I need to re-warm-up right handed when switching from left handed), second game I played a lot better.

11 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 53:56 [1] 2.78 mi (19:23 / mi) +12ft 19:18 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Over to Finn Park and around the field. It was less sunny and more windy than yesterday, but also warmer (around 20) so it was tolerable.
2 PM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [3]

Played 4 games (roughly an hour) left-handed, then 2 games (30 minutes) right-handed. Playing right-handed only, from my recent experience, doesn't seem like a great idea because my wrist really feels like it's had a work-out (too much of a work-out) the next day. So I'm experimenting with keeping my right-handed play to 2 games for a while.

11 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 48:34 [1] 2.47 mi (19:38 / mi) +6ft 19:35 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Still very cold (low single digits), but it was sunny and there was very little wind, plus I really bundled up, so it was reasonably pleasant.

2 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 35:49 [1] 2.02 mi (17:44 / mi) +5ft 17:42 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Nice day for a walk for a change. Low 30's and hardly any wind. Some light snow falling but no real issue with that either.
3 PM

Snow Shoveling 25:00 [1]

Clearing some snow from the driveway, the old fashioned way (no snowblower). Only about an inch of snow on the ground, but it's supposed to get extremely cold tonight so I wanted to get it as clear as possible before it freezes solid.

12 PM

Pickleball 1:00:00 [2]

Played about 4 games of pickleball. I was having a reasonably good time, but it was clearly aggravating my cough/cold/flu so I bagged it after 4.

Hojack Trail, with a short excursion on the Vosburg Hollow trails.

Ran into trailsnail who was out for a run!

Walking (Dog walk) 39:24 [1] 2.04 mi (19:17 / mi) +51ft 18:50 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Tolerable weather, unlike yesterday! Still cold (I think it was single digits when we headed out) and a bit windy, but we headed up to the northern part of the Hojack Trail with is reasonably well sheltered from the wind.
2 PM

Pickleball 1:00:00 [3]

Righthanded, and it actually felt reasonably good (and I played reasonably well). I would have played longer, except my lingering cold/whatever is still an issue. Lots of coughing, and a somewhat warm feeling (over and above how I should have felt just from exertion).

10 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 28:18 [1] 1.13 mi (25:08 / mi) +4ft 25:03 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Holy wind chill. This was a very abbreviated walk. I decided to seek shelter from the wind by bushwhacking through the woods at the end of our street, but it became too cumbersome to wrangle two dog leashes, esp. when wearing heavy mittens. And esp. through semi thick vegetation -- probably only light green at least in mid winter, but still tough with 2 dogs, who are usually not picking the same route choice through the vegetation.
5 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 10:00 [1] 0.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Still bitterly cold and windy. All I could manage with the dogs was a walk through the trail through the woods at the end of the street, which is only about 0.5 miles total trip from home.

10 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 41:52 [1] 2.5 mi (16:45 / mi) +9ft 16:42 / mi
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Brutal day. 17 degrees and gusts up to 41 mph according the Nat. Weather Service web site. Not bad walking easterly on the Rt 104 path, nor in the Finn Park woods, but coming westerly on Heathland was most unpleasant.

Only had Hanna with me (Cheryl was at the vet with Homer) so fortunately the pace was a little faster than usual, meaning slightly less time exposed to the elements.
9 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Nightly dog walk. Temp down to 8 degrees but wind also down, to around 15 mph, so it was actually more pleasant than our mid-day walk. (Wind chill still a chilly -2.) Over to the adjacent neighborhood and around the small block.

Pickleball (Lefthanded) 25:00 [1]

I've felt like crap lately, due to some sort of cold but more than a usual cold. Not much appetite, and wiped out for the last 4 days or so. After church I really wanted to just lie down for a while, but I decided to try playing a little plickleball. I was coughing like mad and feeling somewhat feverish on the court, plus I was playing badly, so it was an easy decision to bag it after 2 games (the first of which was quite short, losing 11-0).
1 PM

Strength 5:00 [2]

After pickleball, I decided to try a short fitness room workout, but it was shorter than I had expected as I didn't even feel up for that level of activity. Did a few sets of leg presses, and that was it.
9 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 32:00 [1] 1.6 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomon hiking boots

Although I certainly didn't feel like taking the dogs out for their nightly walk, with this cold or whatever it is, Cheryl's got pretty much the same thing, and she took them for their afternoon walk. So only fair that I did this one ... temp has fallen to the mid-30's, with very high winds. Went out to the Rt 104 path, to about the 0.8 mile mark (from home), and back.

11 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 40:20 [1] 2.12 mi (19:02 / mi) +7ft 18:59 / mi

More blustery and chilly than I had expected, or dressed for (wore gloves instead of mittens, which was a mistake).

Pickleball 1:30:00 [3]

Right-handed. Still not really ready to play at all competitively right-handed. I'm probably playing only marginally better right-handed than left-handed. Overheads in particular make my wrist hurt, and I haven't even been trying for any power on serves or returns of serve.
