Running 18:53 [2] 2.02 mi (9:21 / mi) +17ft 9:16 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest 2

More hot weather training! Although it's somewhat cheating to wait until the sun is nearly down, because the heat training effect is much reduced. Not a very long run, but my first run since Friday's heat and hill training session, so I felt I had to get out even for a short run.
8 PM

Lawn mowing 24:22 [1] 0.9 mi (27:05 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Conquest 2

Since I was sweaty from running and the lawn needed mowing, I figure I'd do that also. Kept my GPS on, to see how far I walked -- somewhat surprised to find I covered nearly a mile, just for my front yard, which isn't all that large. AP said I climbed 192 feet which is rather absurd. I corrected it to "0".

Orienteering 1:14:21 [3] 4.53 mi (16:25 / mi) +403ft 15:08 / mi
shoes: NB 410 v5

Webster Park, Green course. Finished 3rd out of 13 starters. Straight-line course distance was stated to be 5.5 km.

No big problems. A few route choices that in retrospect seemed sub-optimal, but AP said I only lost 52 seconds, and that was all on #5. I'm not quite sure how that is calculated though; there were two other controls where my time was 5th best; since I finished 3rd overall, it seems that if I was worse than 3rd on a particular control, that would mean I lost time on that control.

On #5, I opted against the straight line route as that went through about 100 m of medium green, and some dark green. I'm not sure if others went straight and it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be, or if there was some other reason for lost time.

On #8, I pondered the longer trail route, along the southern edge of the park, but chose a more direct route that went through about 200 m of mostly light, but some medium, green -- that worked out OK, but I'm not sure if it would have been faster to go the longer route, which was virtually all trails.

Going from 11 to 12, I chose to wade through the creek, which cut off some distance and more importantly got 90% of the mud off of my shoes.

Running (With Hanna) 44:23 [2] 4.5 mi (9:52 / mi) +243ft 9:23 / mi
shoes: NB 410 v5

Morning run with Hanna, before it got too warm for her. (Low 50's and a bit breezy when we started._ HJ trail plus some roads thrown in, to try to get the mileage up to at least 4. The trail east of Van Alstyne still has a mud pit to get through, so we didn't go past that. A short section of actual single-track trail was thrown in, in Vosburg Hollow. Three water stops for Hanna.

Running (With Hanna) 38:56 [2] 4.01 mi (9:42 / mi) +94ft 9:29 / mi
shoes: NB 410 v5

Cool (44 degrees) morning run with Hanna, on the HJ trail. The section of the trail between Klem and Van Alstyne has dried out well in a few spots, but is still pretty muddy in one spot, near Van Alstyne. Plus there is a fallen tree that has to be stepped over (for me) or gone under (for Hanna).

Setting out controls for tomorrow's Letchworth meet.

Somehow AP computed 2484 ft of climb, which I can't imagine is correct. So I'm not sure what's up with that ...
