Sunday Dec 23

Running 27:25 [2]3.26 mi (8:25 / mi)
shoes: Nike Pegasus Trail
Short run in the rain (light at first, then more medium in intensity); not very pleasant weather even though it was in the mid 40's. Main purpose of run was to try out brand new shoes; hadn't worn Nikes in ages and had had trouble with my feet when I had tried, long ago, but these shoes were picked up on a great sale at Dick's and I couldn't pass up the deal, esp. since I really didn't have any decent trail shoes at the moment. My feet felt fine in my first run with them, but 3 miles isn't really enough to tell what they'll be like for any longer distances. Still, I was encouraged.

Wednesday Dec 19

Running long 1:29:00 [1]9.5 mi (9:21 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana Oct 07
Another run on Penfield roads, with Anne, mid afternoon. Sidewalks were generally not that great, ranged from OK to pretty bad, but nothing was really clear of snow. Most of our distance was spent running on the shoulder of roads rather than sidewalks. Started at Plank and Creek; east on Plank to Shoecraft, south/SW to 5 ML Rd; south to Whalen; worked our way back to Creek, and north to the car.

Monday Dec 17

Running hills 26:00 [2]2.7 mi (9:37 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana Oct 07
Fairly lame treadmill workout at OCD fitness center, before going in to work. I had planned on doing an hour but I just didn't have my heart in it. Partly because it was nice and sunny out (when I hatched the idea to do this treadmill workout, it was early morning and still seemed very uninviting to do any outdoor workout). Anyway, I did a random hill workout, with inclines ranging from 0% to 6.6%. About 10 minutes into it, I concluded that there was no way I was going to mentally last for an hour, so I substantially reduced my time goal.
Snow Shoveling 15:00 [1]
XC skiing 27:10 [2]2.23 mi (12:10 / mi)
First XC ski outing of the season. At night, on the Hojack Trail, from Klem Rd going NW to the second cross road, and return. A few snowmobiles had been through so the trail was relatively nice to ski on.
Snowshoeing 22:00 [1]1.0 mi (21:59 / mi)
10 pm walk with the dogs, two laps around the trail through the woods at the end of Woodland Lane. Very rough estimate -- from my house to the woods, two laps, then back, approx. one mile. Pretty tough going -- most of the trail through the woods was totally untracked, with some drifts of a foot and a half or so that the dogs and I had to plow through.
