Walking 3:00:00 [0] 3.7 mi (48:39 / mi) +114ft 47:16 / mi
shoes: Merrell Overdrive

Zero intensity walking, to and from Corn Hill festival from where we parked, and walking around the festival.

If you click on the globe, ignore everything past around 3.7 miles. I thought I hit the stop button on the GPS when I was approaching the car, but either I didn't, or I hit it twice, because the GPS was still recording when I was in the car on 490, I realized.

Running (Trails) 27:58 [4] 3.15 mi (8:53 / mi) +92ft 8:38 / mi
max:150 shoes: Montrail Mountain Masochist

Whiting Rd trails. Kind of a rushed workout, as I had relatively little time between our Corn Hill visit, and a wedding gig I needed to be at late afternoon. Went up to Whiting with Cheryl and Homer, with them walking and me running. I did one full perimeter loop, running pretty hard (averaging 9:10/mile which for me is a pretty fast pace for this loop), then I ran a short out and back while waiting for Cheryl and Homer to arrive.

Short workout, but not easy, and felt way better than nothing, which I almost did.

Running 44:01 [4] 4.93 mi (8:56 / mi) +92ft 8:46 / mi
max:155 shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Fleet Feet run at Remington's. Didn't run yesterday because of heat (wimped out), and hadn't run today. Usually I have something going on Th night, but not tonight, so I figured why not do the group run, it would be a little motivational to have others running and suffering the heat along with me.

The courses offered were 2, 3, and 5 miles. I did the 5 mile.

Decent turnout, maybe 40 people. I started off at what seemed like a nice easy pace of around 9:00/mile. Didn't run with anyone, despite it being a group run -- just no one at my pace. Boots was with a group of around 4 people in sight ahead of me, but I would have had to push the pace around 10 sec / mile faster to stay with them, and I wasn't motivated to do that. Nobody anywhere close behind me. After 2-3 miles, the "easy" 9:00 pace started feeling like a race pace, given the 90-degree or so heat.

Nice after-run stuff -- drink specials at Remington's ($3 drafts, including top shelf microbrews) and free food, nice salad, watermelon, meatballs, and chicken.

Note

Rest day, for the most part. Got myself out in the heat to do a few hours of house painting (making sure I was in the shade). Really felt lousy first thing this morning; no way was I up for a run or anything required exertion. Possibly a combination of a tough run (combined with a nice fall) on Monday, an easier run yesterday (but still not extremely easy because of the heat), and then being out on our boat on the lake until pretty late into the evening yesterday (well after dark). Or maybe I'm just getting wimpy and need to HTFU. Who knows ....

Running 53:42 [2] 5.55 mi (9:41 / mi) +105ft 9:30 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Morning run; tried to get out earlier than yesterday, and I was somewhat successful, but not as early as I would have liked. Yesterday, started around 8:20; today, around 7:20. It was low 70's when I started, probably mid 70's when I finished, but quite humid.

Avoided hills (another difference from yesterday). Hojack trail, from Klem Rd to near Holt Rd, then back to Vosburg, and back to Klem.

The temperature was actually a lot less annoying than the FDF's, which seemed plentiful on most of the route covered.

Running (Trails) 1:01:46 [3] 6.21 mi (9:57 / mi) +312ft 9:30 / mi
shoes: New Balance 749 (trail)

Morning run, but not early enough to beat the heat. Probably around 80 degrees when I started; now it is 84, with a 68 degree dew point. My plan was to run between 8-10 miles but I didn't make it.

Started at Klem and Hojack. Took Hojack to Vosburg, then east on Vosburg for a short distance to the corner of Vosburg and Baker, at which point I took the short but steep uphill trail to the "Big Field". Ran clockwise on the field trail, about 3/4 of the way around, to the trail to the "Big Woods". Eventually came out on Pellet. Took the White trail into the Whiting Rd trail system, then counter-clockwise around the perimeter trail.

I was really out of gas at that point, not helped by taking a dumb fall on the Red trail of the Whiting system. I tripped on a small stump that probably was no more than an inch high, right before a bridge. I stumbled and landed on the bridge, sliding a few inches along the wooden surface. Ran into Anne who was doing a loop around Whiting trails. She offered to give me a ride back to my car, which was appreciated at that point.

Combination of being out of shape due to little running the past couple of weeks, and a warm morning, led to a pretty disappointing run.
