Away for the weekend for a family reunion in Fulton, MO. Staying in a motel on the outskirts of town. Tried to get going early enough to beat the very significant heat, but wasn't totally successful. The Natl Weather Service said it was 78 when I went out around 7:30, and 81 when I got back, but a bank thermometer I passed about mid-run said 87 degrees.

Ran into town, past Westminster College and William Woods college, through downtown, and back through Westminster (mainly past their athletic fields) on the way back.

Mid-day run, started out on Hojack Trail at Klem. Ran down to North Ponds Park, one loop around the park, then headed up the bird sanctuary trail. It started to rain lightly at North Ponds Park, then it rained heavier when I was on the bird trail. Then some distant thunder, and then some closer-sounding thunder. I decided to find what shelter I could, which at that point was in a wooded area that had a small valley/gully where I felt like I was a little lower than any nearby area. Whether that helped minimize risk of a lightning strike or not, who knows. Finally, the thunder seemed to diminish, as did the rain, and I continued on.

I checked the weather radar before I left and it didn't look particularly troubling, so I guess radar doesn't always predict what might be happening soon.

Went down to Lavine's to drop off some orienteering supplies that I had borrowed on behalf of the Bayview YMCA, then parked on Highland Ave. near St. John's Home and did a run from there. Mid 70's, kind of humid, but overcast, with a slight breeze, so not that bad of a day to run. A little rain feel but for the most part the run was rain-free.
