Orienteering 1:09:35 [4] 5.7 mi (12:12 / mi) +419ft 11:25 / mi
max:170 slept:6.0 weight:173.5lbs shoes: Screw shoes Asics Kahana 2 Mar

Ski-O at Mendon (Green course), although I did it using shoes instead of skis, due to my lack of skill on skis.

The GPS track is a bit messed up because (a) I forgot to hit the lap button at control #1, and (b) At control #2, I hit the start/stop button instead of the lap button, so there was nothing recorded between #2 and when I was nearly at #3 and finally noticed that the GPS was stopped. So the split that says #1 on the GPS track is actually control #3.

Thus, my time and distance are wrong. I didn't note my true time; I'll update the log when I see results posted. I estimated the distance I covered between #2 and #3 and added that to the GPS distance, as an estimate of how far I went.

A little bit of weightlifting after the treadmill run.

Downhill skiing 1:00:00 [2]

Skiing at Bristol with Cheryl, on a great day -- fair amount of sun, very nice conditions.

I tried two sets of demo skis while there, both last year's models, and both for sale. Fischer Watea, and Blizzard G-Force Pro, both 174 cm. Both were quite nice, and also different from each other. The Fischer was wider (80 mm underfoot, I believe, vs 72 mm for the Blizzard), which would make it better for pretty much anything ungroomed (fresh snow, cut up snow after a day of ski traffic, soft spring conditions, etc.). The Blizzard held better on the few areas that were hard-packed. Not sure if I'll wind up buying either one, but they were both nice, and distinctly better than what I'm skiing on now.

The GPS said I covered 23 miles, but probably a third of that was on the lifts; and 18,800 vertical feet.

weight:176lbs

Weight still stuck at +9. May not see any progress until I start running again, which may be soon, because laying off of running hasn't shown any improvement in my knee issue. And there is no solid cause and effect that running makes it worse -- so therefore, why not start running again?

Walking (Dog walk) 23:35 [1] 1.1 mi (21:27 / mi) +6ft 21:20 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

With Homer; through woods (bushwack) from end of Woodland to Maple, then back on roads. Snow around 6-8 inches deep, kind of tough going most of the way through the woods.

XC skiing 1:00:18 [3] 2.57 mi (23:28 / mi) +111ft 22:33 / mi

XC skiing at Webster Park, with Anne. My roughly yearly reminder that I'm totally inept at XC skiing. It may or may not matter that I have truly ancient equipment (skis are Trak no-wax from late 70's or so; poles are bamboo poles from the same era; boots and bindings are more up to date, maybe 6-8 years old).

I'm particularly inept at going down any sort of hill, where I would generally opt to take my skis off and walk rather than risk a calamity. Anne wasn't exactly skilled at the downhills but at least she tried it, and didn't have any disasters.

Weight is still +9. No progress. But at least no regression. I suspect that there won't be much progress until I start running regularly again. I have little will power.

Walking 1:23:03 [2] 3.47 mi (23:57 / mi) +880ft 19:19 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

Dog walk at Lincoln Park. I brought along the club's mapping GPS so I could be getting decent traces of trails, in particular a fairly significant trail in the south part of the park which has been put in since the last map update.

Couple inches of snow; hard packed on a few of the more highly used trails, but for the most part, decent footing. I wore Yak-Trax over my boots which helped a lot in the few places where it would have been very slick otherwise.
