Various roads and trails along the Genesee River, in the Maplewood, Lower Falls, and Middle Falls area. With trailsnail. The route included a crossing of the river, at river level, at the Middle Falls, which was nice.

Thanksgiving Day Race With Grace, in Greece NY. First time I had done this race. The Webster race has gotten totally too big (something like 4500-5000 entrants this year -- for a venue that seemed stretched to handle 1000 people only a few years ago). Trailsnail did the Race with Grace last year, spoke highly of it, and signed up for it again. In my case, it was a game-day decision whether to do it, as I've done essentially no running the past several weeks because of a knee issue. But it's gotten to where Thanksgiving doesn't seem like Thanksgiving if I don't do a race, so I did it.

Ran the first 5 miles with trailsnail, at a faster pace than she had expected to run. Then I accelerated a bit from mile 5 to the end of the race.

If I subtract the 28 seconds it took me to reach the starting line, my average pace was 9:09/mile, better than I had expected to do based on my very meager running lately.

My knee was noticeable for about the first mile of the race, then seemed fine, and it seems OK now. Hopefully it will remain so later today and tomorrow.

Race With Grace is certainly a much better venue than the Webster race for handling a decent number of people. Far nicer in many respects: parking, registration, hanging around before the race, and hanging around and eating the food provided after the race.

My results: 559 out of 1011 overall; 23rd out of 33 in my age group (pretty poor).

Pickleball 1:45:00 [1]

Tues morning pickleball. Overall, a weaker group of people than normal (missing three of the better players), although one guy showed up who hasn't played in this group before, another guy named Dick, around my age, probably a notch better than I am. I had played with him once before, when I played at Penfield last Friday. Very nice guy. Guess he's really into pickleball, as his e-mail address is MrPickleball@xxxx.com.

Pickleball 1:00:00 [1]

Monday night pickleball group at Webster rec center. Three people were there who hadn't been there previously, and all were quite good.

My left knee had been bothering me a bit since Sat. night; I had played three straight days of pickleball as of Sat., and I went for a short but fairly brisk (for me) run that afternoon. So I have no idea if the knee issues were due to 3 days of pickleball, or the run, or to neither. In any event, it did bother me tonight during pickleball, on occasion. Guess I'll have to watch it, and see if it seems to respond negatively to pickleball on a regular basis.
