Running ("Race") 1:11:52 [4] 7.57 mi (9:30 / mi) +464ft 8:58 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Mendon Ponds New Year's Day Freezeroo. All on roads.

Time includes 17 seconds to get to start line.

Not even remotely in shape to do this as a race, and not ever really in shape to do it as a training run, but it's kind of a tradition to do this whenever at all possible, and the weather really couldn't have been better for a New Year's Day race.

Ran the whole race with trailsnail. Ran a pretty steady but very slow pace. We weren't in last place though!

Injury/annoyance report: Left knee bothered me a bit for the first half mile or so, then wasn't too noticeable. Felt a blister starting to develop around the 3 mile mark on the arch of my right foot, where if I'm going to get a blister, I do. With about a half mile to go, I realized it had definitely developed into a real blister. But my experience with this particular blister is that it only will bother me if I run, and I'm hardly running at all these days, so no real big deal. Of somewhat more concern is that, while taking my pulse after the race, I observed that my heartbeat was extremely irregular -- couple of beats close together, long pause, couple of more beats, long pause, etc. Both trailsnail and Cheryl advocate that I call my doctor first thing tomorrow to have things checked out. I agreed that they had a point.

Addendum: It hardly makes any sense at all to even look at my placing overall and in my age group in a "race" where I'm clearly in no shape to be "racing", but I still couldn't resist.

Overall, I was 269th out of 375 (with trailsnail edging me by about a tenth of a second), for a 72nd %tile ranking. Things were even worse in my age group, finishing 14th out of 17 (82 %tile).

Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Huge turnout for pickleball this morning at the Webster Rec Center -- I think we had around 18 people at one time. Of those 18, 6 were orienteers, a pretty good representation I would say! (Cheryl and me, Anne and Paul, and Rick and Linda.) Lots of good games.

Walking (Dog walk) 35:49 [1] 2.01 mi (17:51 / mi) +64ft 17:20 / mi

Walk with Homer, around the "big block".

Pickleball 1:00:00 [2]

Th afternoon walk-on pickleball at the Rec center. Couldn't get on the courts early like I had hoped, due to an impressive number of people playing basketball, and had to leave early to get down to my Bristol job. So less court time than normal. Lots of fun, though -- a number of very enjoyable matches.

Running 29:50 [4] 2.53 mi (11:48 / mi) +250ft 10:48 / mi
shoes: Screw shoes Asics Kahana 2 Mar

Whiting Rd loop with trailsnail. Pretty tough footing -- about 3 inches of snow, covering sometimes very muddy and slick ground, and of course covering up little ruts and high points in the trail, plus almost covering up some roots. The pace was very slow but the effort was quite high. Due to a large part to me being very out of shape, of course.

Pickleball 1:15:00 [3]

Came late to Tues morning pickleball, due to seeing our daughter off as she left to head back to PA. Played a couple of competitive doubles games, then we were down to 3 people, so I played against Kay and Bob and got a real workout in. They beat me 11-7, but it was a fairly long and hard fought game.
