Walking (Dog walk) 56:33 [1] 2.37 mi (23:50 / mi) +226ft 21:52 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Afternoon walk with Cheryl and Homer, at what used to be called Linear Park in Penfield. (Now called Channing Philbrick Park, I believe.)

Walking 37:41 [1] 1.59 mi (23:42 / mi) +132ft 21:58 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Walking from our car on Highland Pkwy near Goodman, to and from the main stage area of the Lilac Festival.

A group called Red Baraat from NYC was playing -- very interesting, and very talented, but not really my preferred type of music. 8-piece band; 3-4 of them of Indian (Asian Indian, not American Indian) descent, and a couple others that appeared (and sounded by their names) to be of some foreign ancestry. But major local ties as well -- the band leader (one of the ones of Indian descent) grew up in Henrietta, and several of the band members are graduates of Eastman. The band consisted of a drum set player, two people on other types of percussion, a tuba, trombone, two trumpets, and a saxophone. They were primarily but not exclusively an instrumental group.

The music was very energetic but seemed just a bit too chaotic for my tastes. I think I might have enjoyed them more if they had been, say, a 4 or 5 piece rather than an 8 piece.

Overall, I'm glad we went, and I'm also glad we didn't stay exceptionally long ...

Walking (Dog walk) 39:25 [1] 2.25 mi (17:32 / mi) +85ft 16:56 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Mid-day dog walk. I'm sure it was warmer than Homer's ideal temperature, but he always enjoys walks, and he enjoyed this one (at least he didn't complain).

My R knee has been problematic the last 2 days, in a totally different way than it has been in the past. It is somewhat swollen, sore, and with a distinctly reduced range of motion. It's also tender to the touch in multiple places. My previous problem, which was diagnosed as a torn cartilage, involved no swelling and no reduction in range of motion, and in fact no pain at all unless I had my weight on it and was going up or down stairs.

I have no idea what might have caused this, and I'm hoping it will disappear as fast as it appeared, never to recur.

The good news is that walking on flat ground (like today's walk) isn't too bad -- I'm aware of the soreness and limited mobility, but it's not what I'd call painful.

Walking 15:02 [1] 0.83 mi (18:02 / mi) +15ft 17:43 / mi

Very short walk from the Rec Center, while sitting out of pickleball due to my latest knee issue.

Walk/run 20:18 [3] 1.9 mi (10:42 / mi) +57ft 10:24 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Walk/run, with a little more attention to the running part than walking part -- generally I did 75 sec of running followed by 45 sec of walking.

Knees feel OK while running; the real question is how they feel later today, tomorrow, etc.

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Tues morning pickleball group. Again, played strictly left handed. All the games I wound up in were reasonably competitive except for the first one (11-1 win, but I was teamed up with the best player in the group). My forehand was much worse than usual; my left-handed net play is improving; my serve wasn't too erratic; and occasionally but not often I manage to hit a decent backhand.

Pickleball 50:00 [2]

Monday night pickleball. I got there late (around 8:10) due to having son and grandson over for dinner. But the good thing is that I totally avoided playing with the very inexperienced players, so I had some interesting and competitive games with decent players even though I'm still stuck playing left handed. So better than the normal Monday night.

Mapping 1:23:38 [1] 2.78 mi (30:05 / mi) +389ft 26:34 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

Seneca Park mapping. I obtained LIDAR contours and overlaid them onto the existing map from a couple of years ago. In addition to LIDAR, I had parcel boundaries, edge of pavement data, and building footprint data from the county, all processed with Global Mapper into a form that OCAD can use. Plus the most recent aerial photos, in jp2 format, which Global Mapper processes.

The problem, of course, with simply overlaying new, more accurate, contours onto the old map is that a lot of features on the old map were put on the map relative to the imperfect contours from the USGS map. A stream would be drawn down the center of a reentrant, for example. When the contours move somewhat, to be more accurate, there are lots of features that need to be checked out and possibly moved. The stream down a reentrant is an easy fix -- if the stream is now along the side of a reentrant rather than in the center, it's pretty obvious it needs to be moved. A lot of other things aren't so obvious and therefore need to be checked out.

Also, I'm attempting to do the map to ISSOM mapping standards, since it will probably almost always be used for a sprint, whenever it is used (and it's on the schedule for this year).
