Walking (LPGA) 4:12:40 [1] 5.48 mi (46:06 / mi) +325ft 43:39 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Final day of LPGA. The round went quite a bit faster than previous rounds, thanks to having 2 players per group instead of 3.

The players I was with were Morgan Pressel from FL, and Na Yeon Choi from Korea. They were both 2 over par at the beginning of the round, and tied for 21st place, Unfortunately, neither one played great today; Morgan in particular had a tough day. She jumped from 2 over at the start of the round to 6 over by the 2nd hole, thanks to a bogey on hole 1 and a triple bogey on hole 2. She somewhat stabilized, and even had a couple of birdies, but still ended up 8 over par for the tournament, which put her in a tie for 45th.

I don't remember exactly how Choi finished up, but I think it was around +4 for the tournament. For some reason I don't see her name in the results on line (there is another Choi listed at +7 but that is definitely a different person).

Because the pair I was with wasn't that high up going into the final round, and because neither played all that well today, there weren't a lot of people watching us on most holes, so it didn't have the "final day" excitement that I had experienced last year when I was with the 3rd or 4th best group.

That made me wish I had asked to have someone take my place so I could have done the Rochester Map Adventure instead, which I'm sure I would have enjoyed more.

Walking (LPGA) 5:05:00 [1] 5.5 mi (55:27 / mi)

Day 3 of the LPGA. Didn't wear my Forerunner today. Had a 2.5 hour rain delay to start things off, then the weather cooperated.

I was with Hee Young Park (Korea), Jodi Ewart (England), and Catriona Matthew (Scotland). All were kind of middle of the pack of those who made the cut (they all started at 3 over par).

For the most part, they all played fair to middling, definitely not great, with two notable exceptions: Jodi Ewart had two eagles in the span of 3 holes. A hole in one (!) on the par 3 15th hole, and a 3 on the par 5 17th hole. On the 17th hole, she missed a double eagle by only a few feet, as her 2nd shot from the fairway landed around 5 feet from the hole. In spite of her two eagles, she finished the day at 3 over par, exactly where she started the day. So aside from those two amazing holes, she had a 4-over par round.

2nd round of the LPGA. I sure had a great trio of golfers to be with -- three Koreans: Yoo, Ryu, and Pak. At one point (even going into the last hole), Ryu and Pak were tied for the overall tournament lead at 3 under par. But Ryu had a very bad last hole, with a double bogey on a par 3 hole, so she ended up at 1 under, still in the top 10. (And Pak was tied for 1st place, still, when I left.) Ryu was still, I believe, in the top 10. And was right up there as well, ending up 1 under, like Ryu did.

Again, decent weather. Sunny, not terribly hot, with a decent wind to keep things even more comfortable.

Updated results: As of 7:15 pm, Pak is alone in first place at 3 under. Ryu is tied for 6th with 5 others at 1 under. Yoo is even, not 1 under, and is tied for 12th for 6 others. Not bad to have all three in the group 1st, tied for 6th, and tied for 12th, out of 148 golfers. I'm quite sure I've never been std bearer for such a successful pairing any time in the past.

Some reasonably well known American golfers didn't fair too well -- Michele Wie was 12 over after 2 rounds, and Cheyenne Woods is 10 over through 17 holes today and almost certainly won't make the cut.

Walking (LPGA) 5:12:50 [1] 5.58 mi (56:03 / mi) +397ft 52:31 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

LPGA standard bearer, 1st day of competition. Nice day, sunny, not too hot or too cold, and no rain.

For Gil's benefit (and I'm guessing no one else on AP really cares!), the golfers I was with today were Brittany Lincicome, Suzann Pettersen (from Norway -- I wonder if she also orienteers?), and teenage semi-sensation Lexi Thompson.

No one had a great round; Pettersen was one under par, Thompson around 3 over, and Lincicome around 5 over (she had a terrible start, with a 3-over 7 on the first hole).

Lawn mowing 1:00:00 [1] 0.72 mi (1:23:19 / mi)

GPS again wasn't tracking distance well at all (not that it's any concern at all when it comes to tracking my "Lawn mowing" distance; just a curiosity). At times, I noticed that distance was actually declining from the running total on the GPS. I'm guessing that maybe there's some sort of algorithm that is meant to detect when distance is falsely being recorded as a result of GPS noise, and that since lawn mowing doesn't really cover any large distances from the starting point, it concluded that a lot of the movement was noise rather than true movement. But of course, this is just a wild guess.

Walking (Dog walk) 29:27 [2] 1.96 mi (15:02 / mi) +4ft 15:00 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Guide 3

Late afternoon walk with Homer, around the big block. For a change, I tried to push the pace a little, to give both Homer and me a little more of a workout. At around 0.9 miles into the walk (when I turned from Maple onto the Rt 104 path), my avg pace was just below 16 min/mile, and I set a goal to walk the last (approx) mile fast enough to bring the avg pace down to 15 min/mile. I almost but not quite succeeded.

Walking 5:25:25 [1] 5.65 mi (57:36 / mi) +221ft 55:32 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

First day (pro-am today) of my LPGA standard bearer duty. Lucked out as far as the weather -- my tee time was noon (delayed until 12:20 because of non-weather reasons). It was misting at that time, but soon stopped all precipitation, so we had a nearly rain-free afternoon. Cool and windy, but I knew that and dressed for that. Four days of duty left, all during competition (Thursday through Sunday). Hope my knee is up for four straight days of being on my feet for 5 hours a day. No issues from today, at least.

Looks like I'll need to change my GPS from taking readings every second, to "smart recording" or whatever it's called, because the first 1.8 miles were truncated from the tracks (although the distance was still counted).
