Rafting 4:00:00 [2]

Lower Yough, in a raft with Cheryl and our two kids, Andrea and Greg. Tagged along with a trip led by Andrea's b/f Brian, so we wouldn't have to do our own shuttle from the take-out. Lots of fun, and no unintentional swims!! Greg and Andrea were co-skippers of the raft, and cooperated reasonably well, while Cheryl and I were the front people and followed their instructions best we could.

Walking 1:28:02 [1] 2.1 mi (41:55 / mi) +531ft 33:49 / mi

In Ohiopyle. With Cheryl. A walk around the Ferncliffe Peninsula, which is on the inside bank of the famous "Ohiopyle Loop", probably the only or one of the very few places in the world where one can do a short walk to the put-in, do some substantial white-water kayaking or rafting, and then do a short walk from the take-out back to the starting location. (Map of the Lower Yough, showing the "loop": http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/ucmprd2/groups/public/... )

GPS started going batty near the end of the walk, then later totally died, in which state it lingered for a few days, only to come back to life (apparently) yesterday.

Walking 30:00 [1] 1.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Another walk down to Cucumber Rapid, this time to take pictures of our son and his large contingent doing the lower Yough in two rafts. The contingent consisted of his two band-mates, one of their girlfriends, a roommate of his and his girlfriend, another friend of his from Rochester who now lives in Buffalo, and three young ladies from NYC who know the guy from Buffalo.

Some good pictures, and overall a pretty successful rafting trip, considering it was unguided. Our son, the most experienced of the group, was essentially the trip leader. No one swam (unintentionally) from his raft, and there was only one unintentional swimming incident on the other rafter, where they ran into a bit of trouble at Railroad Rapid and three people of the 5 on the raft went overboard for a brief bit.

Walking 30:00 [3] 1.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

In Ohiopyle, PA for a long weekend, with our son, and eventually his bandmates, and our daughter, who lives in Ohiopyle, and her b/f who also lives there and is one of the top rive guides for Wilderness Voyagers. (My daughter also works for Wilderness Voyagers, but in the store/office.)

Our son did the Friday night loop run in a duckie (inflatable kayak), and Cheryl and I walked down to Cucumber rapids to get some pictures.

Orienteering (Trail Challenge) 32:31 [4] 3.01 mi (10:48 / mi) +307ft 9:51 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Cobb's Hill Trail Challenge. I did the 5K course, unofficially, since I had made the map and vetted many of the control locations. I wanted to experience the "mass start" aspect of the race, and hopefully some of the following / pack forming.

I wound up finishing in 2nd place, behind Zach by quite a ways, with one person fairly close behind me who told me he had been following me for the last 5-6 controls. I didn't expect to finish nearly that high -- a number of much better runners than me had some major navigation issues, apparently, one of which I witnessed, going from 2 to 3.

I was pleased that I was able to maintain a reasonably fast pace (relative to my lack of conditioning) for just about the whole distance. My knees didn't bother me during the race, and still feel OK. Hopefully they will be OK tomorrow as well.

Pickleball 45:00 [1]

Pickleball at Webster Park. For the first 15 minutes it was just Jayne and me, and Jayne didn't seem real eager to play if there was no one else, so we more or less chatted (basically learning her views on various things, and a little about her daughter who visited this past weekend). Then Donna showed up and we played cutthroat for a while until Debbie showed up, at which time we played a game of doubles. At the end of the game, it was 9:30 and I had to leave to drive Cheryl to work by 10:00, as we're down to one car today. So not a real great morning on the pickleball courts. Would have been much better, of course, if trailsnail had been there, if she hadn't come up with this excuse of a broken clavicle to get out of playing pickleball. :)

Mapping 1:32:16 [1] 2.99 mi (30:49 / mi) +344ft 27:48 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Seneca Park mapping. Making some final tweaks to the northern section.
3 PM

Mapping 39:05 [1] 1.47 mi (26:31 / mi) +98ft 24:57 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

More Seneca Park mapping. Focusing on the area around the pond and just south of the pond. Wanted to spend more time, but things were cut short by the rainstorm.

Pickleball (Left handed) 1:30:00 [1]

At the Ontario Beach courts. Five of us; trailsnail, Paul, Robin, Lisa. Nice morning for pickleball, not too windy.
2 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 1:50:10 [1] 4.51 mi (24:24 / mi) +433ft 22:22 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Venture 3

Map hike at Powder Mills; more trails walked with the GPS, and more familiarization with the park, including a few sections I had been very unfamiliar with. With Homer in tow; he was happy, got a nice long walk, and got to swim in Iron. Creek about 4 different times.
