Walking (LPGA) 4:50:00 [1] 5.0 mi (58:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Venture 3

Last day of the LPGA. Didn't carry a GPS today, but the time and distance are quite predictable ... :) My tee time was a way too early 6:50 am, meaning I had to be on the road from home by 6 am. Very cool for the first few holes, esp. since I decided to go with shorts and a short sleeve shirt, having faith in the weather forecast, that said it would fairy quickly become warm and sunny, and sure enough, it did.

I was impressed at the schedule that the golfers had today -- 36 holes total. The trio that I was with teed off, like I said, at 6:50, and finished their round at about 11:40. Their afternoon tee time was 12:20 -- 40 minutes to firm up the scores in the scorer's tent, grab a quick bite to eat, hit the bathroom, walk from the last green back to the first tee, and maybe relax for about 2 minutes, then get ready to go out for another nearly 5 hours. I concluded that golf is actually more of an athletic undertaking than I had given it credit for. Not to mention the high level of skill and focus needed to be competitive at this level.

Orienteering (LPGA) 5:28:10 [1] 5.52 mi (59:26 / mi) +339ft 56:11 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

More LPGA duty. Knee still a bit problematic.

I find it interesting, and also a bit discouraging, that AP examines my GPS track (with its very slow overall pace, consisting of periods of relatively fast walking interspersed with very long periods standing still), and concludes that I was probably "orienteering".

Walking (LPGA) 5:19:12 [1] 5.24 mi (1:00:55 / mi) +322ft 57:34 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

Second day of my LPGA duty. First day of actual tournament play. Better weather than yesterday, when the golf was canceled on account of the heavy, all-day rain, but still not the greatest weather. Misty rain the whole time, and at times the mist was substantial enough that the golfers and many spectators were using umbrellas. Needless to say, I was quite wet at the end.

My left knee was certainly feeling the effects of the minimal pickleball play yesterday; it was generally bothering me at least somewhat the entire time, the only exception, oddly, was when we were going up hills. Similarly, it hardly bothers me at all going up steps, whereas walking on flat ground definitely causes it to complain. I think my lesson, unfortunately, is that I need to take an extended hiatus from pickleball, like a month or so. And maybe another visit to an ortho doctor, as this problem seems quite different and distinctly more severe than the other problems I've experienced over the past couple of years.

Pickleball 1:00:00 [2]

At WRC, indoors. Played for an hour, felt my knee complaining during the last 30 minutes of it, so decided I'd better not overdo it today. Can't really afford to have major problems with it when I have 3 more days of walking the LPGA course (was scheduled for today also, but the golf was rained out, obviously ...).

First day of 5, volunteering for the LPGA as a standard bearer. Pro-Am today. Pro was Hee Young Park, who was very pleasant. In fact, everyone was quite pleasant -- probably a result of them (a) doing very well (12 under for the round), and (b) them all being beer salespeople (they all worked for Wright beverage distribution company or whatever it's called).

Walking (Dog walk) 51:12 [1] 2.73 mi (18:46 / mi) +11ft 18:42 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Dog walk, with Homer and with Hershey, who lives outside of Canandaigua. Hershey is up for a visit for a few days, mainly to give her some exercise which she doesn't get at home as her owner, who is a bit up in years, doesn't take her for walks. She has a fenced-in back yard with a doggie door so her dogs can go in and out as they wish. Hershey (black lab mix) is a great dog and not all that old, but she's put on a lot of weight over the past year (almost certainly correlated with her total lack of exercise). So her owner joked that Hershey's visit to us was going to a weight-loss camp ... Not sure how much we can accomplish in a few days though!
