Walking 1:00:00 [1] 3.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Actually three walks of approximately 20 minutes and 1 mile each.

Dog-sitting for the dog from hell, Hugo from across the street. He's exceptionally friendly and totally non-threatening to humans or to other dogs (although he can be annoying both to humans and other dogs by his exuberant friendliness), but that's about the extent of his good points. Trying to give him (and Homer comes along of course) plenty of walks to minimize the presence of his many negative points.

He's a Wheaten Terrier, by the way, in case anyone wants to put this on the list of dog breeds to never ever get.

Walking 2:14:27 [0] 2.47 mi (54:20 / mi) +7ft 54:12 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Corn Hill festival.

AP guessed that I was "orienteering", which made some kind of sense given the slow pace and multiple stops.

Pickleball 1:45:00 [2]

Indoors at WRC. I think we had 10 people at the maximum. Some good games, some so-so games, but generally a good time.
12 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 35:00 [3] 1.5 mi (23:20 / mi)

Rough combined time and distance for 2 dog walks, actually -- had 3 dogs, Homer and two neighbor dogs, Hugo and Romeo, that we're sitting for today. Fortunately trailsnail helped me on the first one and Cheryl on the 2nd.

Biking 1:37:04 [3] 21.98 mi (4:25 / mi) +170ft 4:23 / mi
shoes: Dave Scott Ironman Centurian (

Goal was to go further than I did in my last couple of rides, accepting that I'd be going slower.

Most of the time coming back I was on the Rt 104 bike path which I knew would be slow going due to uneven pavement (esp. on the east end), time spent crossing roads (again esp on the eastern part), and some other people on the path to avoid (which actually wasn't much of an issue). And sure enough, I slowed down substantially.

Course setting 2:00:00 [1] 4.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Setting out controls for the trail challenge. Didn't wear a GPS, so time and distance are estimated. Actually took quite a bit longer than I had anticipated. Since it took me 93 minutes to walk the course, shouldn't it have taken me less than that to set out the controls, when I can park at various places and do the controls in an efficient order? Guess the rub is that it's not practical to carry 22 controls, stakes, and e-punch boxes, which meant multiple trips, and my multiple trips may not have been all that optimum. Anyway, I was more wiped out than I really should have been. May have partly been due to the bike ride this afternoon.
6 PM

Walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Walking around taking pictures during the meet.
7 PM

Walking 25:00 [1] 1.0 mi (25:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Control pickup, doing the 7 southern-most controls. Again, took longer than I had expected.

Walking (Dog walk) 44:56 [1] 2.44 mi (18:25 / mi) +10ft 18:21 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Hurricane 11

Walk with Homer, to Finn Park (not quite to the creek however) and back.

Walking (Dog walk) 52:03 [1] 2.75 mi (18:56 / mi) +17ft 18:49 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Mid-day walk with Homer. He got hosed down before the walk, then about halfway into the walk he took a nice long dip in a stream, and then finally he got hosed down again when he got home. He doesn't seem any worse for wear, at the moment at least.

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Webster Park. Reasonably nice weather -- mid 70's, not too much wind. Had 5 people -- Cheryl, trailsnail, Joy, me, and a guy (Mickey? can't quite remember his name) who is from Arizona, in town visiting his daughter and her family for a while. Definitely a decent player.
5 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 41:30 [1] 2.19 mi (18:57 / mi) +9ft 18:53 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Early evening walk with Homer. Was going to go further, but I heard some very threatening thunder not too far away. Not only did I not want to be in a downpour/thunderstorm, I realized that I had left the windows to my car wide open at home. As it turned out, the storm just missed us.
7 PM

Strength 45:00 [3]

Various exercises in the Rec Center fitness room, mostly involving legs.
8 PM

Pickleball 45:00 [3]

After the fitness room workout, I snuck into the gym and played 3 games of pickleball.
