Walking (Dog walk) 44:16 [1] 2.52 mi (17:34 / mi) +10ft 17:30 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Venture 3

Late afternoon walk with Homer over to Finn Park.

When we got back, there were 3 dogs socializing in our yard -- Hugo, the Wheaton Terrier from across the street, and Joey and Hershey, two dogs belonging to a lady in rural Canandaigua who we trade dog-sitting duties with. Thankfully, Homer gets along just fine with Joey and Hershey, and tolerates Hugo (who just absolutely loves every person and dog but can be over-exuberant). So it was fun for everyone.

Pickleball 1:45:00 [2]

Webster Rec Center. Had 12-13 people there. Wide range of levels. The first 3 games or so, I wound up in games that weren't all that evenly matched, they weren't all that much fun, and frankly I was playing pretty badly. I took a break, then got into some much more even games, had more fun, and played better generally, up until the last game when I teamed with Mike S., and both of us were way off, and lost the game 12-10 against a team that wasn't bad, but whom we should have beaten. All in all, though, not a bad morning.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:00:48 [1] 2.24 mi (27:09 / mi) +197ft 25:03 / mi

With Cheryl and Homer. Walking around Ellison Park, mainly the golf course area, with current map in hand. Homer got to meet two friendly dogs, take a look at the dog park, and see a couple of horses up pretty close, plus go for a few swims in the creek.

Pickleball 1:15:00 [1] 1.26 mi (59:31 / mi) +1ft 59:28 / mi

Pickleball at Webster Park. Small group, only 6 -- Steve, Joy, Mike and Debbie S., Cheryl, me. Not a whole lot of exciting games. But maybe that was OK because I was playing pretty lousy. Most interesting game was when Mike S. recruited Sam Barnabas, who was there playing tennis with his (very excellent) sons, one other young man who won the Roch. District Tennis Tournament 10 years ago, and that young man's father. Sam was sitting out; Mike knew him and talked him into trying pickleball, with Mike and I playing with him. Talk about a natural. Not too surprising since Sam's a solid tennis player and also an excellent badminton player. Unfortunately, Same could only play for about 15 minutes with us before he was summoned back to the tennis court.

Again wore the GPS for the heck of it (and was pleased to see that I covered 1.26 miles), but I forgot to turn it on once when I was playing, and then also forgot to turn it off when I was sitting out, so it's not much of a record of time played.

Strength 35:00 [3]

The usual fitness room workout. The weights I'm lifting with leg exercises are steadily increasing, actually faster than I might have thought. The two arm exercises I do (lat pulldowns and shoulder press), on the other hand, are pretty stagnant. Guess I should be more encouraged about the leg progress since that's where my main issues are, than discouraged about the lack of upper body progress.

WRC Fitness room workout. Mainly legs as usual, but with two arm exercises thrown in (lat pulldowns and shoulder presses).

Walk/run (With Homer) 28:26 [2] 2.41 mi (11:48 / mi) +43ft 11:36 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Tried running for the first time in many months! I've been getting stronger in the legs, and more flexible, from the exercises I've been doing, and I haven't had any knee issues while playing pickleball in a while, so I decided to see how running went. Started out doing 30 sec of running interspersed with 90 seconds of walking, but that felt a little wimpy after a few reps, so I increased the running to between 45 or 60 seconds and the walking to 75 or 60 seconds respectively. Knee felt fine, but the real test is whether it bothers me tomorrow, and then whether I can do regular workouts (like every other day) like this and not have any knee problems re-appear.

First significant running that Homer has done in quite a while, and he seemed to hold up OK. A dip in the creek at the turnaround point helped a lot.

Pickleball 1:45:00 [3]

Outdoors at Webster Park. Had 9 players at the max. Joe Roth made a surprise appearance (I had thought he had gone out to Calif to backpack and then to see his granddaughter, but he's leaving this Wed.). All of my matches involved Joe on the other side of the net, so I had a reasonable workout. Players there were Joe, me, Cheryl, Mae, Tom, Ken, Dan, Andy, and apparently one person I'm not recalling.
