In Denver, staying near the airport. Very nice morning, sunny, not much wind, maybe mid 30's. Went for a short walk.

Last day at Vail. Very different weather and snow conditions that previous days. 3-4 inches of fresh snow, for one thing, plus fairly brutal weather -- started out in the single digits with up to 40 mph winds, eventually warmed up to nearly 20 but the winds persisted. (Quite a contrast to the sunny low-wind mid 30's we had on Monday and Tuesday.) Somewhat challenging snow conditions on some slopes for us easterners, but we did improve, and most of the slopes we were on had been groomed so the conditions on those slopes were fairly enjoyable.

At Beaver Creek today. Weather not as spectacular as last 2 days, and the logistics of getting to where we needed to be (parking lot shuttle, etc.) were a bit more involved than Vail, but it was still a nice day. Lighting ranged from good when the sun was out, to pretty flat when it was overcast.

First of 3 tracks.

Another beautiful day in Vail! Forecast looked a little worse than yesterday -- partly sunny, very windy (up to 40 mph), high in the low 30's. But instead of partly sunny it was fully sunny, like yesterday, and while windy, it wasn't enough to make us cold or really interfere with skiing enjoyment.

Skiing at Vail Colorado!!! With Cheryl and trailsnail. Doesn't get much better than this, at least weather-wise. Sunny, probably hit a high of mid 30's, not much wind. No fresh snow but skiing was still great. Stopped and started the GPS a number of times which with my low-brow GPS (FR 10) gives separate tracks. So there will be several tracks from today.

OK, this one wasn't too enjoyable. Trailsnail and I were taking one last run after Cheryl called it quits. One of us took a wrong turn at a trail junction, the other suspected it was a wrong turn but didn't realize quite how wrong so the 2nd person followed the first one. Trail took us to Cascade Village rather than Lionshead where we wanted to go and where Cheryl was waiting for us. This was a pretty big problem -- no bus service back to Lionshead; would have been a very significant walk esp. with ski boots on and carrying skis and poles. There WAS a lift going back up from Cascade village which would let us ski back down to Lionshead, so we took it. There were apparently some very major mechanical problems going on with the lift, as it stopped maybe 10 times and spent much of the non-stopped time moving about 25% of the normal speed. So the ride up took a VERY long time, not to mention the stress of knowing Cheryl wasn't any too happy about the situation, plus the stress of wondering if the lift was going to totally fail at some point.
