Orienteering race 1:11:25 [3] 3.82 mi (18:42 / mi) +130ft 18:07 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Webster Park, Green course. I didn't do too badly for the most part; however my already slow pace was slowed even more when I took a pretty hard fall (tripped on a ruined wire fence) and landed with my right arm under the upper left part of my chest. Definitely knocked the wind out of me!

Thanks to Rob Holmes and Jim Borden who were both nearby, for stopping and checking on me. After lying there for 15 seconds or so and then slowly getting up, I decided I wasn't hurt badly enough to need any assistance, so I thanked them for checking and said that they could keep going on their courses. (In looking at the GPS trace, the tumble happened at 36:42 and quite surprisingly, the trace says I was moving again by 37:10. Sure felt like long than 28 seconds to me!)

For a number of minutes after falling, I was going very slowly just from being a bit shook up, then I got over that part of it. But when I tried to do even some slow running, my chest was complaining. And now that I'm home, it still doesn't feel all that spiffy. So I suspect that I bruised a rib or two, or even cracked them. But I've had a truly broken rib before, and that hurt distinctly more than this does, so I don't think it's real bad. Hopefully something that will cure itself in a short amount of time (days, I'm optimistically thinking, as opposed to weeks).

Update after taking a shower: Sustained a couple of small cuts, one in my ear and one on my nose where my glasses sit (apparently the fall pushed the glasses into my face a bit). Chest not feeling any better, possibly a little worse. Definitely no pickleball will be played today! (Which had been the plan.)

Pickleball 1:45:00 [3]

Open gym pickleball. Good group of players, lots of challenging games. trailsnail played better than ever, thanks I think to some instruction/practice with Sean the other day.
3 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 56:10 [1] 3.0 mi (18:43 / mi) +13ft 18:39 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Over to Finn Park, where the dogs took a dip in the creek, then back via Rt 104. Mid 50's, partly cloudy, not too windy. Nice day.

Walking (Dog walk) 37:20 [1] 2.16 mi (17:17 / mi) +3ft 17:16 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Walk with Homer and Hanna, around the big block. Still cool (low 30's) but sunny and not too windy.

Walk/run 21:28 [3] 2.03 mi (10:34 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Ran 2 loops of the path at the Rec Center with trailsnail after getting kicked off of the pickleball courts, and after an abortive attempt to play pickleball outdoors (way too windy to be any fun).

First loop, we ran 1.5 minutes and walked 1 minute. That was starting to tax me, so we changed to 1 minute running / 1 minute walking for second loop.

Walking (Dog walk) 31:00 [1] 1.82 mi (17:02 / mi) +6ft 16:59 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

With Homer and Hanna, over to Finn Park (but not very far, kind of pressed for time) and back. Sunny but windy and around 25 degrees.

Pickleball 1:15:00 [3]

Rec Center, open gym. Lots of good players, as usual for morning play. Very humbling, in general, plus particularly humbling when I played a game of singles with Pam, probably the top female pickleball player who plays regularly at the Rec Center. She trounced me 11-2, and that wasn't at all unexpected. After all, she's better than me in general, faster than me, and 20+ years younger than me. :) More discouraging, though was the last doubles game I played, where I teamed up with Kevin, probably the best male player at the Rec Center, and we played against Pam and Mark Y.; even as Kevin's partner I couldn't come up with a win, losing 11-7. If there was any consolation, it's that the other 3 players in the foursome were probably 10, 20, and 22 years younger than me, respectively.

Walking (Dog walk) 45:26 [1] 1.85 mi (24:34 / mi) +230ft 21:58 / mi

Ellison Wetlands. Trails pretty muddy in spots.

No dog(s) this time. Urban walk, more course setting for RMA. Nice morning to be out.
8 PM

Pickleball 55:00 [3]

Ladder league. Once again I thought my play was sub-par, but I managed to avoid moving down to a lower court for next week.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:12:00 [1] 2.4 mi (30:00 / mi) +150ft 28:20 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

With Cheryl, Homer, and Hanna, in and around Cobb's Hill Park. As usual, looking for controls for the RMA. There were LOTS of people and quite a few dogs at the park. Nice to see so many out enjoying the nice day. Homer and Hanna got to take a dip in Lake Riley when we were done, although Hanna didn't seem to want to go in any deeper than around 4-6 inches, even though she was quite obviously in need of cooling off.

Neglected to stop GPS when we got back to car.
9 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 41:00 [3] 1.8 mi (22:47 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Longer-than-usual nighttime walk with the dogs, because of the pleasant temperature and the full moon. We walked over to Finn Park, around the lodge, and back on the trail for a short distance -- with the full moon, I didn't need to use my flashlight even on the trail.

Distance is a decent guess, but still a guess.
