Running race 26:30 [4] 3.14 mi (8:26 / mi) +13ft 8:24 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5K, from Frontier Field (part of the Puerto Rican Festival). First race I've done in ages -- couple of years I'd say.

It was a pretty small field so it didn't take too long to get to the starting line, but still I decided to start my watch when I crossed the line instead of when the official start was.

It was supposed to be a certified course, but my GPS said 3.14 miles and trailsnail's said 3.16 miles, so it may have been a bit long. In any event, I'm calling this the distance that my GPS said rather than 5K.

Finished 4th out of 5 in my age group -- not too good but what more can I really expect. I was only 26 seconds out of 3rd place at least.

Pickleball 45:00 [2]

Outdoor courts at the Rec Center. Played like crap the first game, then improved to semi-bad for the next two games. Then I thankfully had to leave because I had to be somewhere at 11:30 and take a shower in between!

Late-evening dog walk. No GPS carried; over to Finn Park, around the parking lot, and back.

What's the deal with this weather, it's late July and I had to put on a jacket???

Dog walk on a very wet day. Our rain gauge had been empty yesterday evening, and now has 3.3 inches in it. The rain finally showed a bit of a letup so I decided to get the dogs out for a semi long walk.

We went over to Finn Park to see what the creek was like. As expected, it was roaring -- definitely kayakable in most parts, with some rapids that I would rate as Class II.

Got very wet, esp my feet. I wore hiking boots thinking that might keep them at least somewhat dry, but in order to get to the creek, we had to cross a small drainage ditch that is usually totally dry, sometimes is a bit muddy, and sometimes has some water in it. Today it was about 6 feet wide and probably a foot deep at the deepest part. I was reluctant to cross it so we headed in the "upstream" direction a ways but it didn't get much better. Finally crossed at a point where both feet wound up going in water about 10 inches deep, resulting in totally saturated socks and boots. No big problem though, in fact that removed any perceived pressure to stay dry.
