Lawn mowing 45:00 [2] 1.2 mi (37:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Front and back yards. No GPS carried, so distance is an estimate based on a fuzzy recollection of the few times that I did use a GPS for lawn mowing.

Walking (Dog walk) 23:54 [1] 0.82 mi (29:19 / mi) +156ft 24:49 / mi
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

My right hip has been a bit sore, possibly as a result of the Sprint at RIT (maybe running too hard w/o enough warmup? although I DID warm up some), and possibly aggravated by lots of hill climbing at Mendon on Friday. It's a new ailment for me so I'm trying to be cautious about it, thus I didn't run yesterday and decided not to run today. Dog walks on level ground didn't seem to bother it TOO much though.

Cheryl suggested that we take the dogs to Lincoln Park, parking at the end of Smith Rd and walking down to the waterfront, to check out the very major construction happening down there. About 1 minute into the downhill walk, it was pretty obvious that I should not have agreed to this walk -- downhill did not agree with my hip issue at all. Once we got down to the bottom, she wanted to walk further, but I declined, on account of my unhappy hip. Walking uphill to the car was marginally better than walking downhill but still wasn't great.

It feels like some sort of pulled muscle, so hopefully things will be fine in a few days, at least if I avoid doing activities that aggravate it (like the hilly walk today!).

Walking (Dog walk) 26:00 [1] 1.35 mi (19:15 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Late-evening dog walk, to the Rt 104 path, down just a bit, and back.

Whatever my hip issue is, it seems happier with level ground than with either uphill or downhill terrain. It's interesting in that going up and down stairs doesn't seem to bother it nearly as much as going up and down slopes.

Pickleball 2:20:00 [2]

Indoors, at the Rec Center. I played OK but hardly had any truly challenging games as I was in synch with solid but not top level players.

Orienteering race 1:13:50 [3] 3.32 mi (22:14 / mi) +441ft 19:45 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

World Deaf Orienteering, M45 course at Mendon, after all of the official competitors had started.

Lost probably 5 minutes on #7 I think it was (I don't have my map in front of me right now). Otherwise, no huge lost time incidents, just overall very slow, partly due to fitness coupled with lots of hills, partly due to annoying undergrowth that made it risky to run even where it was flat, in many places.

Based on my GPS track, AP guessed that my outing was "Walking", which is no surprise based on my pace.

Orienteering race 17:58 [4] 1.5 mi (11:59 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Sprint course at the World Deaf Orienteering Championships, at RIT, after all the competitors had started. I felt I did quite well until the 11th control, when I had a parallel error where I thought for a few seconds that I was on a different trail than I was, and made a correction back to the trail that I wanted to be on (which was the trail that I was actually on at the time). Might have cost me 30 seconds. But then I totally botched #13, the final control, in plain site of the finish line. I thought I was further south than I actually was. Lots of confusion, with Jim Russell (who was manning the finish line) watching me the whole time, which made things worse. I bet I lost more than a minute on that control, which should have been maybe 20 seconds from the previous control. So between #11 and #13, I probably lost 2 minutes.

Forgot to start my GPS at the start! Distance is estimated.

Walking 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Conquest

I was assigned to observe 4 controls in the afternoon sprint relay. The controls were a bit of a walk from the start/finish, plus I couldn't see even 2 of them from any one spot, so once in the area, I wandered from control to control checking on them making sure they hadn't been moved or taken. Distance and time are very rough estimates.
