Brown course at Harriet Hollister. Almost certainly the worst orienteering outing of my life! I knew my stamina would be the pits because of fairly severe anemia, and if that were the only issue, I'd be satisfied. But not only was I slow, but my orienteering sucked big time.

Starting out with #1 -- I had a strategy to rely on trails to get me close to the control, in spite of it being a pretty complicated trail network. I clearly got confused and lost a ton of time. (I talked to a few other people afterwards -- small sample size, but two people who took a compass bearing did OK, and the one other person who tried to navigate with trails did badly.)

#2 was OK. #3 was terrible. Going from 3 to 4 was a long uphill slog that just about had me convinced I should just DNF, but I persevered. Found 4 with just a small bobble, had some trouble with 5, and then finally got things reasonably well sorted out so I did ok on 6, 7, 8, and 9.

One of the slowest times of anyone on Brown.

It's not really an excuse, but this was my first A meet in ages; also I've done little orienteering the last couple of years, but I'm guessing lots of other people were in the same situation.

Control pickup. Based on my feeble physical state, I requested that I be assigned controls near the finish, and the request was granted.

Sunday Afternoon loop. Beat my ghost by 16 seconds. Bike #1 (the best one, from what I can tell; meaning the fastest/easiest one).

Avg 13.6 mph, 121 watts.

625/886 overall, 44/78 in age group.

Iron Horse loop, Bike #2. I did terrible, lost to my ghost by nearly 5 minutes. Ghost was from only about 6 weeks ago, March 12. But that was on a Webster Rec bike, which at the time I thought seemed suspiciously easy. On March 12, my avg HR was only 127, vs 129 today, so I was definitely working marginally harder today.

Avg 12.5 mph, 110 watts.

655/823 overall, 36/61 in age group.
