Saturday Jun 30

Adventure Racing 6:36:00 [3]
Finished paddle down Butze. It was a strange paddle in the foggy darkness and it felt like maybe the boat wasn't moving but instead the water was just flowing past. Amazing bioluminescence made for glowing paddle strokes and green traces of streaking fish trails.
Out of the boats and a portage up to the Butze rapids parking lot. Headed out on the trail up to Mts.Olford and Hayes which quickly turned to windfall and scattered trails. We were lucky enough to find the trail again and set out up the slippery boards to the top of the ridge. The trail was beautiful and we were there just as the birds were waking up with some morning songs. We turned our headlamps out for good just as we were arriving at the top and were greeted by a great view of Rupert and some very excited locals. FB suddenly got the finish line fever here and so we did a quick (and painful) run down the logging road into town. We were all smiles as we crossed under the finish. Thanks to FB, urthbuoy, revy for a great race and fantastic memories. It was also awesome to see tons of friends out on the trails, and to make some new ones along the way!

Friday Jun 15

Event: Nav-Stock

Orienteering race 1:10:56 [3]***
Good times at the NavStock Night-O. Made some mistakes at the begining, but once I got my groove on everything went pretty smoothly. Leanimal ran with me in her little short running shorts. It was actually part of my plan to encourage her into the woods and lead her into the thickest brambles and raspberry bushes I could find to try and sabotage her legs with for the upcoming Extreme. I don't think it worked.

Wednesday Jun 13

Running hills 20:00 [5]
10 X 2min hills with decent. Not a long hill, but steep! And especially hard with the beans on my back.
Running 50:00 [2]
Good run out to my hill in Erindale Park. Wore a pack loaded with cans of kidney beans, chick peas and stag chili. You never know when you'll have a snack attack!

Tuesday Jun 12

Running 35:00 [2]
Trails around Mac with Bob. Even threw in a little bushwhack section for some extra carnage. I was trying to emulate FB and his tough-guy exterior so I dragged Bob through a little short cut over to another trail. We encountered some raspberry bushes and lots those spikey vines that reach out and grab you and I managed to get my sleeveless arms scratched up a bit. Threw my shoulder into one and managed to get a good snag. Even drew a little blood. The scratch might even be bit enough for a scab. Rarrrr!!

Note
More studying today....I'm sure this is all good prep for Extreme. Either my muscles will be well rested, or I'll at least be able to administer some fantastic cardiorespiratory physiotherapy while out on the course. Maybe if my team's lucky it'll even be a little of both.

Sunday Jun 10

Paddling 4:00 [5]0.8 km (5:00 / km)
6 hours at the Mississauga Dragon Boat Festival = four times 200m sprit races = 4min of paddling. Yes, total paddling time was about 4min and probably a little less than that acutally. We did very well and were happy with our second place result.

Good times at the Pickering dragon boat fest. At least 18min of this hour was a 5, and the rest was just warm up and cool downs. Who ever invented a sport in which a race lasts only 2 minutes??? :)
