| This was pretty much a road ride through some country roads west of the Hammer. Lots of little ups and downs to challenge myself on as I tried to keep up the pace on the hills. I find that it is always my legs that are the limiting factor on the bike. The lungs feel great, but it's the lactic that gets me down! I guess I need to put in some more time, and so that is a goal in prep for Raging in Michigan with the Bobkittens! | |||

| Running long 2:00:00 [3] | |||
| Great long run in the DV with TVP, Bender, and Hastytime. The light rain provided relief from the heat, and the trails were crazy slippy and fun due to last night's intense t-storms. The legs felt great, and my pace felt very comfortable to the point that I considered logging this as a 2. I feel like I'm starting to get that "light" feeling back! :) | |||

Since my eager Hamilton-based training partner has now left town, I had to trick a poor unsuspecting classmate to come out with me for a workout. Hopefully she'll want to join me again some time.

| MrP's farewell TNT session was celebrated with his special formtopping intervals: 120/90/60/30s X 3 with 60/30/30/120 off. We all looked great out there in the hot and muggy air. See for yourself:

| Running intervals 25:00 [4] | |||
| MrPither's Swedish pyramid: 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1. I managed to pull it off properly despite my constant confusion about what interval was next. MrPither was really really slow as usual. I felt pretty strong, and it was nice to have a bigger group out there!
Oh, I also had some extra hurdles training when the Griz had a muddy slip and I had to take to the air to not step right on him.

| First ever Escarpment Rally. Ran with TVP who pushed me on the flats. Unfortunately MrPither provided absolutely no inspiration to us as we lost sight of him about 2min into the rally since he was just flying!!! He managed to shave about 2min off his old record - was it the new geeky yellow XC spikes? My new trail shoes carried me to the first ever female Escarpment Rally record-setting time. I have self-declared myself the Escarpment Rally Championess.
Goal is to break 27min. | |||

| Ran "Donatos" tonight: 3 sets of 45s on + 15s off X 10 = Killer.
I felt like I had a lead weight in my stomach. Maybe my after school snack was too big, or maybe my body was in protest. Either way, I definitely wasn't as fast as I usually am tonight but struggled on at the back of the pack without feeling too badly about it.

| Only one set of Frankensteps for me tonight. Planned on doing two but my legs were burning and screaming after one so I thought I'd listen to them and back off. | |||

| MTB 1:10:00 [3] | |||
| First time out on the bike since Storm the Trent. I was a little worried about the pressure through the wrists on the handlebars and after about 45min (and one bumpy trail) the left one was letting me know it was annoyed. The right wrist (the broken one) felt pretty darn good.
Rode from my place up to Chedoke, west on the rail trail and crossed the highway then descended down to the bumpy bumpy bruce where we ended up out at Wilson St. Went up to the Heritage trail and back around to Westdale via the Monarch Trail. Apparently my max speed was 67km/hr. Somehow I think my computer must have had a little glitch!

| Formtopping!! Followed MrPither's Norwegian interval regime this evening with 120/90/60/30s intervals with 60/60/30s rests. Did 4 sets with 2mins in between each.
Felt strong, and concentrated on improving my stride power/length by really leading with the knees. MrPither reminded me to have "fast arms" which helped a lot too.

| Running intervals 24:00 [4] | |||
| Well, I'm calling these intervals even though I felt like I was barely able to keep up a quick pace for very long. I guess maybe I'm still recovering from Sunday's run, or maybe it was the unbelievable speed of MrPither which humbled me.

| NAVSTOCK RAID!!
What a great day for the Salomon Bobkittens! Leanimal and I were like a well-oiled machine out there on the trails and in the woods, and our hardwork and training and experience paid-off with a first ever all-female win at a GHO Adventure event! The successful day started off with us putting our heads together (and coordinating our matching outfits) and planning great routes on the maps that we'd already recieved. Lucky for us, we were familiar with the map that we got at the start line as it was the location of last year's Navstock night-O. The starting countdown ended and we chased Grizzly Bender and the Foreigners down the trail. The Foreigners went for the more aggressive uphill route while we and GB decided to stay low. We cruised throught the first 6 controls without a problem and ended up getting dropped by GB but figured that since we emerged from the trails at the exact same time as the Foreigners we must be doing okay! The next section was smooth for us despite almost mising the giant western rockpile and we came into CP10 just behind the leaders. Lee bagged 10A and 10C while I went out to 10B and 10D. We quickly filled up on water (it was soooo hot!!) and continued on toward Walk The Line. Just past CP 12 we found a shiny white control card on the trail. Lee and I hmm'd and haww'd over it for a few minutes, but finally decided to be good bobkittens and give it back to its rightful owners instead of burying it in the sandy trail for it to never be found. The Grizzly Benders still owe each of us a beer!!! :) Walking the line went well, and soon we were up on Horseshoe Valley road with GB in the dead heat of midday. As hard as it was to hustle up that road in the scortching sunlight, I knew the quicker we got out of the sun the better off we'd be! So, by the time Lee and I started looking for elusive deer lawn ornaments and aboriginal statues we were running in second place. When we arrived back at the ski chalet, Wil (of the foreigners) was just starting his RUN up the ski hill so we weren't that far behind! I can't say that I followed Wil's lead by running, but I got up and down that hill as quickly as possible before I handed off the sweaty control card to Leanimal and she attacked the second peak. The mud section was disapointingly dry, however, I considered pushing Bender into the damp creek as he looked a little warm and clean but decided to hold off on the pranks for now since I figured that may negate the beer he owed me. Lee and I headed off on the southern map to start off the Rogaine. I don't have the maps in front of me here, so I can't comment too much on the details of our route choice, but we continued to have stellar nav and work well together for some clean and quick decisions. I was hurting on the way back as we ran along the southern side of Horseshoe Valley road. Leanimal was truly shining here as I breathed through my momentary light-headedness, and instead of heading back to the chalet for more water we decided to push through and grab what we could on the north side after a momentary stop at the creek to soak our hats. I felt much better once we moved back into the shade and got some more fluids in me. It think we went back and forth with the pukies throughout the day but we obviously managed ourselves well since neither of us really had any problems. One mistake on the north rogaine map cost us about 10min of thinking/hesitation time so we had to drop one of the controls we were planning on grabbing on our way back, but in our tired states we didn't really care. We finished off with just under 10min to spare (I think?) before the 6hr cutoff. Leanimal is a spectacular teamate: Confident, decisive, and able to put up with my bull.....I think the key to our success is open communication and the ability to check egos in order to make the best decisions or move beyond our errors. Thanks Leanimal!! You're the best! And also a special thanks to Salomon for enabling us to look so good out there! ;) Thank you thank you thank you to all the organizers, planners, and vetters. I know how much work was required to run this race and it is very much appreciated!

| So, I learned tonight that I'm not such a confident orienteer when a super-skilled O-master such as Mr Pither is not running behind me. Maybe I focus more when I know that he's there watching, or maybe I know deep down inside that he'd correct me if I'm terribly off, or maybe his presence just reminds me to keep it together. Well, whatever the reason, when I headed out on one of the Ancaster Creek maps tonight by myself I made a massive parallel error on my third control (look at me with the fancy o-speak!), which Mr Pither would probably not even consider a parallel error because it was just so wrong, and I lost a ton of time and confidence which sort of started me off on the wrong foot. But I guess mistakes are there to learn from, and I did better on the next map when Mr Pither and I were swaping nav between controls. He is very fast.
I felt a wee bit better tonight than I did the last couple of outings. Still felt pretty dead going up the steep hills at the end, but felt better on our run back to the car along the rail trail so at least I know that the recovery is coming back. The humidity of summer is already getting to me. Was super thirsty again today, and feeling beat, so came home and ate a huge bowl of pasta and drank a couple vats of water. Is it really supposed to be over 30 degrees on Sunday?? Yikes.

| Training day out in DV with Mr Pither. We ran on an old training map which started at the Ancaster community centre. We took turns swapping nav between controls today, so I'm sure Pith got more of a workout in than he did yesterday. I was dying by the end of it though and so I forced him to slow down a bit. These 3 weeks of healing time may have taken their toll! However, i will be much fitter and stonger and quicker on Sunday and I'm sure I'll still feel fantastic as me and my fellow feline friend saunter across the finish line ahead of MBR and Grizzly Bender. | |||
