Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
slept:5.5
C • skating...if you've got your s... 3
Running 35:00 [4]
6.5 X 4.5min hilly loops up at Chedoke with the TNT gang. Legs and lungs felt very tired and slow but the footing was great up the hill since hansel's hot speed managed to dry off the pavement.
C • Hansel's so hot right now 10
Running (Stairs) 10:00 [4]
Ouch. Legs even more tired now.....took the stairs slow, but managed to get 'em all done anyhow.

Maybe Monday workouts drain my legs for Tuesday runs?

Monday Jan 29

Strength 1:00:00 [4]
weight:3.2kg
Imps workout. Good all-around circuit: core stability, upper body including reverse pull-ups and chin-ups, lunges, push-ups, stationary bike climbs, stability ball pikes.
Cycling warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Sunday Jan 28

Orienteering race (Thommass Bradford) 53:13 [4]***
15c slept:7.5
Had a great time at the Thomass course today with Leanimal by my side. At the very last minute we decided to run together and we enjoyed having each other there to put the other to their max - I can definitely say that I wouldn't have been that fast without her!!! Thanks Leanimal!!

It was a beauty day with lots of fresh fluffy snow and lots of good friends.

Found that I was breathing pretty heavy today. This probably has something to do with the combination of my new life as a desk-sitting student and this yucky cold that has been invading my lungs and energy! Hopefully today's race beat it into submission and I will once again be boss.
C • Congrats! 14

Saturday Jan 27

Note
slept:9.5 (sick)
Yes, I know, I haven't done anything since Tuesday and as Bash says "everybody knows!".

My cold was pretty bad Thursday and Friday. I managed to go to school and get my daily living stuff done but I feel pretty wiped right now. Oh, and now I have to catch up on all learning that I brushed off when my brain was semi-comatose. Dang school!

Looking forward to the Thomass tomorrow.
C • Sick 2

Thursday Jan 25

Note
(sick)
Feel very strange today. Cannot warm up for the life of me. Just took a little nap in my jeans, a wool sweater and cotton jacket and was cold. Deep hacking cough in my lungs. Darn it! I was just sick in December! Hopefully this will pass soon.

C • Get Well Soon! 6

Wednesday Jan 24

Note
slept:7.5
Wow, pretty beat after Monday's workout, last night's run in the snow and a couple nights of short sleep early in the week. Have a bit of a cough today.

I've been a slave to the desk since I got home in the early afternoon. Brain seems to be non-functional so work is slow. I heard this program was intense. I now believe them.

Hopefully I'll get a good stretch in tonight before bed.

Tuesday Jan 23

Running intervals 45:00 [5]
slept:5.5
Clubhouse loop with a big fun gang tonight. See Zoolander's log for a description of Greta's narrow escape from the clutches of animal control. TVP=The Fugitive.

1,2,3,2,1 intervals. Had to cut loops short to finish at the same time as Hansel. This means that I shaved off the two steep hills at the Aberdeen end, but the deep snow added enough resistance for me to see stars and feel like my lungs had tripled in size by the end of each interval. Good hard push tonight. Legs might have been relatively tired after last night's workout, but this only means that I maxed out at a slower pace.
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
Running (Stairs) 5:00 [4]
A slight twinge in the previously injured calf was enough to cut my frankensteps short at 6. Legs felt like jello!!!!

Monday Jan 22

Strength 1:00:00 [4]
slept:5.0 weight:3kg
PROformance workout with the Imps crew. Lots of arms, abs and pain.
Running warm up/down 40:00 [2]
Treadmill

Sunday Jan 21

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)
Exercised my brain by keeping my nose in the books.

Saturday Jan 20

Running (Trails) 1:40:00 [2]
slept:8.5
Escarpment trails in and around 6th line and Hilton Falls with Hansel, Bob The Navigator and MsRispolie. Nice snowy conditions in the beautiful sunshine!

Friday Jan 19

Note
slept:5.5
Very tired after a busy week at school. Midterm on Monday!! Must sleep....

Thursday Jan 18

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]
Warm-up at the nice new indoor track at school. Nice surface for running with the rubber floor! Worked on technique and stride.
Strength 1:00:00 [3]
Sometimes I find weights so boring but we missed our strength workout on Monday due to inclement weather so I figured I should do something so I don't die next week.

Rotator cuff exercises, bench press, assisted chin-ups, stability ball hamstring curls (ouch!), situps, squats.
C • assisted pull-ups? 3

Wednesday Jan 17

Orienteering 2:20:00 [3]***
slept:7.0
Headed to the DV with Bash today to run some of the Ancaster Creek maps. We were curious to see what the woods and streams would bring us. Due to this week's freezing rain, and warnings of freezing cold chest-deep stream crossings (!!!) we put on our warm clothes and sturdy shoes and headed down the trail.
We decided to run course 2 and 3 since course 1 involved the most stream crossings with a total of 5! I certainly wasn't interested in spending our entire run soaking wet. So off we went, with Bash starting on map 3 and me starting on map 2.
During the 50min time limit we'd set for ourselves for our first maps, I managed to find only three controls out of the 7 that I actually headed to! think I spent more time scratching my head then actually running hard during this first map.I know, I know, orienteering seems a little rusty for me these days, but in all honesty, I'm pretty confident that at least 3 of them were actally missing and the scratching to running ratio would have been a lot higher otherwise. Lots of trees and branches were down in the valley after this week's freezing rain storm, and upon reunion with Bash (who had apparently wasted less time than me looking for "dry" stream crossings and was practically soaked to her waist) I discovered that she had had the same problems with missing flags so that made me feel better.
We then traded courses and I headed out for a slightly more successful run on map 3. No, I didn't get more controls, but I spent more time running in the right directions and not second-guessing myself! I even found a really cool antler that I'll have to put on my mantlepiece one day when we get a fireplace. I figured picking it up and carrying it around could give me some extra training, while also providing me with a super-duper branch blocker and an ultra-fine ice axe to self-arrest with should I take a nasty tumble down a steep icy slope.

All in all, a great afternoon of orienteering fun.

Tuesday Jan 16

Running intervals 40:00 [4]
Figure 8 loop with TNT: Sudden, Hammer, Jbird, Bob, TVP and Zoolander. 4 X 7.5min (?) intervals with a couple of minute breaks in between.
Running (Stairs) 8:00 [3]
Other people on the stairs, and the shear coating of ice made tonight's stairs a little slower and less intense.
C • Ice 2
Running warm up/down 40:00 [2]
Warm-up before intervals and running back to school along tracks.

Monday Jan 15

Running 20:00 [2]
I cannot express how proud I am of this extreme distance run. There may have even been some short intervals in there after I chased hansel down the sidewalk after he gave me a facewash with the freshly fallen snow.
C • Dirty spot 2

Saturday Jan 13

Orienteering 1:32:00 [2]
Tree Hugger Invitational! Amazing event! So fun! Well organized! For a good cause! Too bad I left half my brain at home and forgot how to orienteer, write things down on paper and keep a pen in my hand. Ooopsie! This would have been a better workout for me had I not spent so much time standing in the woods and scratching my head. Need to get out to Thomass so I can practice my stuff!

Calf felt great though - as if nothing was ever wrong.

Thanks again to Bash and 'Bent for a great day!!!

Thursday Jan 11

Running 1:00:00 [2]10 km (6:00 / km)
Winter Rally route x2 with Bob, Hammer, Superwess1000, TVP, Greta, the jbird and Zoolander. Lots of stretching of the legs throughout.

Hurrah! My first run in a week and the calf felt good. Made sure I took it easy and didn't push hard on hills - in fact, I walked the steeper ones. Left ankle did feel a little tight though and reminded me that I'd injured it earlier in the summer. This may have been the trigger for the calf injury in the first place.

Wednesday Jan 10

Note
Physio today. US, massage and laser. On the speedy road to recovery! Should be able to jog tomorrow night.

Tuesday Jan 9

Swimming (Lengths) 10:00 [3]
You, know, swimming with my eys squinty shut because I forgot my goggles. I barely ever swim but felt pretty good considering.
Swimming (Pool Running) 35:00 [3]
Good workout for the lungs and legs. I forgot how good this can be for my running and plan on doing it more regularly. Calf felt good but got a bit sore near the end just with the resistance of the water.
C • Pool Running 23
Note
About 50 min of quick walking up at Chedoke with the TNT group tonight. Calf felt fine but tried jogging a little bit and I could feel it nagging. Hopefully I'll be 100% for a gentle run this Thursday with TNT.

Monday Jan 8

Note
(injured)
Okay, I feel like a total lazy slob, but the calf is still tender enough that I know that if I break out into even a slight run I will risk losing all the healing I've done so far. :(

But I'm on the mend, and will soon be at my best again thanks to the Jillanimal.
Cycling warm up/down (Stationary bike) 30:00 [1]
Had a good gentle spin on the bike at PROformance. Was taking it easy. Calf felt fine. :)
Strength 30:00 [4]
PROformance centre workout with the Imps. Chin-ups, abs, reverse pull-ups, push-ups.

Saturday Jan 6

Note
(injured)
Left calf still hurts like a %&*$%#@. Definitely did some dammage on Thursday. Much to my chagrin, my body is screaming for me to me easy on it until it heals. No need to turn this into something chronic.
C • Ancaster Training 4

Friday Jan 5

Note
(injured)
As much as I really wanted to get back on the bandwagon after a lazy holiday break, I found myself today not having any time in my day to do anything fun. Besides, the screaming pain in my calves might be telling me that I went a little too hard last night. Man oh man! Ouch! Not sure if that workout made me stronger, or just did some permanent dammage.....

Thursday Jan 4

Running (Stairs) 1:00:00 [5]
TNT: Zoolander, TVP, Hammer, jbird and Greta. Pyramid of Pain n' Puke. Skipped a couple of the longer flights so I could keep the cookies in. Legs felt like they got worked and turned to jello. My lungs were workin' so hard that I actually felt dizzy. Or was it the pre-workout nutrition of a Snicker's bar that did me in? (the store that had healthier things was closed....) Mental note: bring more food to school on longer days!
Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
Warm up run to Chedoke via the usual Bob route even though she couldn't make it.

Wednesday Jan 3

MTB (Road) 47:00 [4]19.8 km (2:22 / km)
Down Missy Road to PC and back. Felt like a superstar on my way down. Didn't feel as good on the way back up with the wind in my face. Need to do more interval training on the bike.

Tuesday Jan 2

Note
(injured)
Maybe this is a lame excuse, but I went to the eye doctor today, and I got those little drops in your eyes that make everything blurry. Well, 7 hours later, one of my eyes is still blurry while the other is crystal clear. I sit here typing with one eye closed. I thought of going for a ride tonight, but I'm a little worried about perception and crashing onto my head and permanently dammaging my other eye. I'll do double tomorrow after I wake up and find that my eye is all better. Promise. Maybe I'm just lazy and this is a good excuse.....

Oh, and yes, everyone can now officially call me four-eyes. I have joined the ranks of the visually assisted. (but I do still seem quite sharp with that paintball gun, eh Leanimal?) Fortunately, Doc says it shouldn't affect speed through the woods though. As long as there aren't too many trees.
C • That's a good excuse 9
