Orienteering 12:15 [5]
Loop 1 - Despite punching the wrong control (along with most of the other orienteers), I did quite well on this loop and actually was the first person to punch the finish control! Yes, I did take my handicap. Oh, and I judged my finish time according to the fastest recorded time in the results. On my results I have a big fat "mp"
Orienteering 17:25 [5]
Loop 2 - Didn't do quite so well on this loop. My route choice was silly and I changed my plan at the very begining of the run which sort of got my head screwed on backwards. Oh well. And I took my handicap here too.
Orienteering 15:34 [5]
Was going to take my handicap here, but with Millhouse right behind me breathing down my neck and telling me what a shameful bobkitten I would be if I actually took it in this round (since I was disqualified anyway), I decided to just get all the controls.

Monday Mar 24

XC Skiing (Skate) 1:50:00 [3]
Another beauty day up in the Gats with the BullCat. Sunny sunny sunny. Started at P8, crossed the road, parkway to 15, up and over by the ruins, back to champlain pkwy, down fortune parkway and back around through the doldrums. Legs were feeling fatigued after some long days so I was forced to go a bit slower than I wanted

Sunday Mar 23

Running 1:00:00 [2]
Good 'ol canal run with La Femme. Ah, so nice to be back in the old 'hood!

Saturday Mar 22

Event: Hard Rock Orienteering

XC Skiing (skate) 3:00:00 [2]
Amazing skate ski today with Dog Runner, MaxGrab, and cousin Bob. I've never before experienced anything quite like the freedom of skiing freestyle over huge expanses of frozen wetland and lake. We were dodging trees and taking jumps off the little mounds of snow here and there. The sun was shining down on us making for a perfect scene!

Friday Mar 21

XC Skiing 2:00:00 [3]
So glorious to be back in the Gats for a beautiful sunny day. Good big group with La Femme, Dog Runner, MaxGrab, cousin Bob, and Jake and Anita. Skiied from P7 up to ridge and 1a and b. Cut out onto a wetland on the side of ridge for some fast skating free of the confines of the icy trail.

Thursday Mar 20

Running 1:20:00 [3]
Out with the Boltonites for the Wednesday night hoopla. The bod isn't quite sure what to make of the pavement. Calves were little achy near the end and it reminded me that they'd been sore yesterday too. Maybe left-over from Monday's road run? Anyway, good thing I'll be taking it easy today with driving to O-town. No need to repeat last winter's Chedoke stairs calf injury!

Tuesday Mar 18

Running intervals 35:00 [4]
Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]
Running (Stairs) 7:00 [3]

Sunday Mar 16

Running (Roads) 55:00 [3]12 km (4:35 / km)
After a long week of hard work and interrupted sleep, I finally managed to log some hours. It felt good today to hit the pavement in the sunshine. I have a feeling that all that deep snow running is going to pay off....
Strength 15:00 [3]
Monkey bar workout!! Shoved the kiddies out of the way at the park behind my place and did some chin-ups, push-ups and reverse pull-ups.
Note

Just some random winter pics

The Bobkittens on our favorite trail at the snowgaine!!

DogRunner at the snowgaine. I stayed at top of the hill so I could, uh, take this picture:

Running warm up/down 35:00 [2]

Monday Mar 10

Running 25:00 [2]
Just a quick zip around the neighbourhood. Wore my new XT Wings and they felt grrrrreat!
Strength 20:00 [3]
Arms and abs on the ball.

Sunday Mar 9

Orienteering 1:02:00 [4]
Shameful, shameful day out in Kitchener for me. Got all muddled up at the very begining. I'm trying to decide whether to blame it on all the snow, not paying attention to the map scale, or the fact that the blinding sun was getting into my eyes. It was probably just the fault of my compass, as usual.

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:10:00 [2]

Wednesday Mar 5

Skijoring 1:20:00 [3]
First time out skiing with the dog and the harness! I had some backcountry waxless classic sticks on so the skis weren't terribly fast, but wow, we sure picked up some speed on some of the downhills. If only Koona would really focus on keeping up the intensity on the uphills we could have been soooo much faster. She would often slow down on the hills and almost be running behind me. Makes for interesting wipe-outs when the lead gets wrapped around legs (mine or hers) and poles and skis. Also, I had a couple of good butt-plants when she got distracted by the mysterious creatures under the snow by the side of the trail which just HAD to get sniffed immediately. Nothing like 50lbs of solid dog to yank you sideways off your skis!! We stuck mostly to the freshly groomed trails but took a few side trails too which hadn't been groomed since the 20cm or so of fresh stuff had fallen. Good times. Hopefully both she and I will get better at working together so we can really rip!

Tuesday Mar 4

Snowshoeing 4:00:00 [2]
Deep crusty snow made for some slow moving and tired legs but the feelign of warm sun on my face was worth it.

Monday Mar 3

Running 52:00 [3]
Ugh. Tough hilly road run and not quite as relaxed as I'd wanted it to be. Unfortunately, Koona (a dog) insisted on pulling me DOWN all of the slippy icy roads instead of UP them.

Wet feet in the rain.

Sunday Mar 2

XC Skiing 7:33:10 [3]
Awesome second day of the Snowgaine! Dog Runner was an awesome partner and we worked well together on the maps, planning, survival muffin eating, and suffering. I was well challenged in the self-calming skills at some points when my wax kept giving up (skiing on sandy roads will do that I guess), or when the tip of my ski would get caught on the wrong side of a tree for what might have seemed like the 100th time in an hour. Regardless, we managed to fly through the course this day and make it back with all of our planned points with even a few minutes to spare!
C • Yay, Bobkittens! 6

Saturday Mar 1

Snowshoeing 7:56:13 [3]
Day 1 of the Snowgaine was actually more of a mix of snowshoe and running. Dog Runner and I decided to start things off right with a good 6km road run out to a far control. We figured we'd let our brains warm up and spend the time looking over the rest of the map while we trudged down the snowy pavement. We eventually ended up chasing Millhouse and Dee and caught up to the Treehuggers as well. Fun day out there, despite the agony of running down long snowmobile trails which we expected to be plowed roads!!
