Running 55:00 [2]
Nice run with Tina down Colonization road. Felt very good and easy.
Other (Badminton!!) 1:00:00 [3]
Whoa - what a day! I can't say that I'm super proud of my performace today on the badminton court. Tina and I ended up playing eachother in the Women's C division consolation final (pretty much the rookiest game out there...) and she beat me 21-15. Pretty good match. She deserved to win. I definitely had some good airbirdies as I like to call them.

The afternoon brought the women's doubles tourney. Tina and I did pretty well. We used the "one up, one back" strategy and it worked quite well for us. Tina is about 5'11" with lightning quick reflexes and a 6-foot reach so she actually took the front of the net so she could bring on the full intimidation tactics to our opponents. Me, well, me and my fancy footwork and penchant for running around like a decapitated chicken took the back and was able to aggresively smash the birdies down and power them to the back of the opponent's side with my massive shoulder muscles. Sometimes we even did this really neat trick (by accident) where Tina would stand up and I could kinda jump and smash the birdie back over to the other side and the other team wouldn't know the wiser because they'd have trouble seeing me behind tall Tina. Good strategy! I think these games really marked our place in Fort Frances legend. They'll probably miss us when we go in a couple of weeks....So, after 4 sweaty matches we ended up placing fourth overall, uh, out of 6 teams...but at least we weren't last!!

Now, off to ice my impending tennis elbow.

(Who knew badminton was so hard on the body??)

Fort Frances Invitational Badminton Tournament

So, my first match of the night was against a woman named Sally who'd travelled all the way from Winnepeg for this tourney. We both started off a little clumsy, but soon things heated up and the birdies began to fly. We had some exciting ralleys (I even had to grunt a little when I smashed the bird) and at one point I was very upset as I was down 19-10. However, I managed to persevere through the frustration without cracking my racket on the gym floor and I eventually caught up and it was 20-19 at one point (game was to end at 21 but winner had to win my 2 points). Well, you can just imagine the intense look of concentration on my face, sweat streaming down my back, knees croutched in anticipation of her quick serve to my backhand....then, alll of a sudden, SWOOSH! I missed the bird and she won the match 21-19. Bummer for me.

So then I advance to the first consolation game and I actually played this girl who was probably 14 and entered the women's category because she signed up too late and her age group was full. Well, *"chest puffing up* I managed to clean the gym floor with her gaping jaw as I sent those birds over the net like rockets to acheive my 21-5 victory! YES!!!!

More to come tomorrow when I may even face my own friend, colleague, and co-student Tina Bear in the consolation finals! ROAR!

XC Skiing (Skate) 55:00 [2]
Crappy ski tonight. The snow was deep and mushy and I had absolutely no glide. Felt like I was skiing on marshmallows with two-sided tape on the bottom of my skis. Then it started to rain. But I saw two bald eagles and that was a first skiing sighting for me so very cool.

Note
Crap day in the world of AR. Supplierpipeline had to drop out of Bimbache today because the airline never managed to deliver two misplaced bikes. They did the initial trek during the first stage but had to run with their fingers crossed in hopes that all 4 bikes would be in the transition when they got there. No luck. Very disapointing. Boo to the airline.
