| Running race 40:02 [4]8.5 km (4:43 / km) vdot: 42.4 | ||
| 5 Peaks Horseshoe Valley.
I started in the first wave where there was a girl who was sort of evenly matched with me last year and another girl who I didn't recognize. The one I didn't recognize (red tank top girl) took off pretty fast, and the other one was sort of hovering behind me so I decided that red tank tip girl was actually my biggest threat and I needed to keep her in my sights. She was pushing a very good pace over the first couple of kms on the wide trails, and looked very strong on the first long hill, and I got a little bit worried that I was going to end up killing myself trying to keep up with her. But we got on a good section of more technical single-track up on a little ridge everyone seemed to slow down to keep an eye on their footing and this is where the I'm-an-orienteer-and-can-run-fast-through-the-woods-and-bound-like-a-doe-over-the-trails-! feeling came out and I easily caught up to her. She encouraged me to pass her, but instead I decided that I'd just hang tight behind her and take a little breather while she was working hard. There was another section of good flat dirt road coming up and I would rather stay just behind her on that section than pass her now on the technical section and have her catch up to me later. So we stayed like that for a wee bit, and then given a little more technical running, and some really really great downhills (where I think I've really learned to harness the power of gravity) I eventually put some distance on her. Of course, I didn't let her see me look back, but I took a little peak on a switch-back and knew that I was gaining pretty good lead. So, for the rest of the race I just imagined that she was breathing down my neck and every step I took still had to be perfect and powerful and confident and I tried not to think about how much I was hurting. I crossed the line at 40:02. If only I'd run 3 seconds faster and I could have broken 40! Congrats to Leanimal and Phatty too who did very well on the fast and killer 8.5km course. The Salomon gear was being well showed-off!

| Running intervals 18:00 [4] | ||
| Shorter intervals tonight. 1 x 1. Felt great to run on the grass, and I pushed myself consistently hard thoughout. Legs are tired now. | ||

| MTB 1:10:00 [3] | ||
| MNTNT. Yes, that's right folks, TNT has now morphed into MNTNT. The M could both stand for Monday or MTB, or come to think of it, the M could also stand for Magnificent. Coach Grant showed TVP, NKOTB, Tommy Hillflyer and I how it's done on the Chedoke trails tonight. Lots of good speed and twists and turns!
The legs felt good. Belly had an anxiety ache in it. (only happens during MTB for me)
