escarpment trail
this was not the race result I was looking for. I drank 2 liters before the start, a gallon during the race, ate 3 servings of sharkies and still cramped up. it was warmer than I like, but I still not hot. as early as the climb up blackhead I was hurting. from there it became a quest to finish without doing any damage to the legs and hopefully be ready to race next weekend where it really counts. made it up stoppel with some moments close to cramping, but kept it on the line between cramp/no cramp. then felt pretty good down to north point, but once I started leaping down the ledges it was obvious that I was not going to make it in running. the cramp came in the inside of my left quad and lasted about 10 minutes. walked most of the way in and managed a smile for the camera at sunset point. glad it is over. it was nice to see the douglas family. both doug and dave ran a good race.

A finals at WMOC, WN AUSTRIA
not the finish I was hoping for. was looking for top 50, maybe 40, but I think I was 63rd. it was extremely difficult for me to move today. very warm and humid, although others say that was not a factor for them. at times it was a struggle to maintain a steady jog.
the map was good, terrain was nicer than the qualifiers and the course was not as technical as it was on the other days, but I still had problems within the circle. tried using a magnifier today and lost some time figuring out how to use it. probably best to just use it when I am in trouble and need some help seeing what is in the circle.
overall the trip was fun and I had some good races. happy to be there with pavlina and share her golden moment. happy to see evalin win a few times too.
next year maybe finland.

started fine, bobbled in the middle (map?)
felt pressure to make up time and bobbled a few more. qualified, but need to iron out the wrinkles for the final. perhaps take the balter approach and run slow, but make no mistakes.

mix of fast trail running, slow forest and careful map reading. I remembered how canada was a disappointment and made sure I did not make any big errors. at this point I just need to qualify...
