Orienteering race (sprint) 17:50 [4] **** 2.4 km (7:26 / km) +131ft
spiked:20/24c shoes: Robotic 1
wmoc sprint qualifier in Leiria Portugal
started at the entrance to a castle, high on a hill top. the first 6 cps were in the ruins of the castle and it was very tricky. if you could see the stairs and underpasses you would do well. I missed a few of them and probably lost about 1 minute inside. from there it was downhill into the old town. the course zig zagged across town, going through a small park with gardens (OOB) and fountains, past many small cafe's and finishing in the "square". very nice course, very nice day. result was good overall, but I suspect many were just out taking it easy. tomorrow will tell. totally different terrain as they are promising both woods and dunes as well as another smaller old town and urban area. the finish is practically on the beach. should be nice.

Event: WMOC 2008

running 1:00:00 [1] 3 km (20:00 / km)
scouting out the sprint final terrain in some village on the ocean (name escapes me)
very cool areas, the old village, the dunes, open forest, the beach
could easily get lost in the alleys

Orienteering 1:09:48 [3] *** 8.9 km (7:51 / km) +886ft
spiked:18/23c shoes: Robotic 1
nice open woods, variable running with ferns and other briar type veg, sandy underfoot, but firm for running, few problems which can be traced to the compass, will work on that next model
