Adventure Race race (bike, run) 12:51:00 [5] ** 70.0 mi (11:01 / mi) +100ft 11:00 / mi

MGAR
disappointing course design. by design I mean the lack of choosing cp's that can be found using the usual navigation skills. for this race you needed a bit of dumb luck and perseverance.
too much emphasis was placed on searching through thick woods to find a bag hung on no obvious feature. and for somebody who relies on strong features/attackpoints this is a real pain in the ass. I am sick of tired of beating through the bush attacking a point from a strong point feature only to find out that a local walked right up to the flag because he knew about a ATV trail. not only am I tired of that I am done with racing courses set by people with no experience in navigation. this course was totally set from sitting on the couch. the killer was when he said he had to throw out a cp because when he got out there to set the flag (the day before the race) the location did not match the map. nice.
finally, to top it all off we had our first experience with the "you had to been born there" cp. according to the RD in order to find this one flag (bag in the woods - 2 meter contour interval and no contours within 1km) you had to been born there to find it. wow!
I still don't know where one of the flags is. no where near it should be, but in the RD's mind it is spot on.

oh, did I say it was cold? 35 and raining the whole day. all 10 fingers are numb a day later.

game over!!!!!!!
